California Nails — Local services in Cary

I went here on a Saturday morning after stopping by another shop where the first employee hadn’t arrived until 15 minutes after their posted opening. John did my full set and was so helpful in selecting my shape & color without being condescending or rude, as I’ve experienced in other salons. My nails are in perfectly shaped and he took his time to do everything with care and fidelity, even though they were busy and other places my have rushed to try and get the next person in the chair. Because I wasn’t there right when they opened and it was a Saturday, I had to wait a little while to be serviced, which was expected and not an issue at all. I’m saying this, though, because during that time, I was able to notice how they treat other customers, both regulars and walk-ins and I was so impressed! They were so friendly and obviously caring about their clients’ lives and they knew personal details about those that were regulars. That was refreshing to watch and made me want to become a regular. The only reason I gave 4 vs. 5 stars is because I think they could increase their sanitation a little by using fresh nail files & sterilized manicure tools on customers, as I’ve seen done in other salons. They did clean the pedi spas immediately after finishing pedicures and had nail brushes at the sink being sanitized for washing after nail services. They have a ton of gel colors and give absolutely no attitude if you need help finding or matching one! If I could give negative stars I would. I went here the Saturday before Easter to get my nails done. I have been getting my nails done for 8 years. I get there and wait initially 30 mins. Then they do my nails. It’s not the best work I’ve seen but I took accountability for choosing to go somewhere new. Within three days of going here three nails are broken and all of my nails have polish coming off. I asked for a gel fill in. I paid $28 plus a $7 tip. I came back Tuesday and even though I called ahead I waited 45 minutes. I asked how long until I could be seen she said another 30 minutes. I ask to come back another day she says “come back if you want” at this point I am beyond frustrated. On top of all of this she wanted me to pay another $20 have my nails fixed. I leave, then I call asking what I can do Bc between my two jobs I can’t make it back before next weekend she then proceeds to call me a liar telling me that I was only charged $20 and I’m lying and starts yelling at me. I try calmly explaining my frustration she tells me I never called ahead and that I’m a liar and they’ve been in business for twenty years and have regulars etc. So overall, I went to my regular place which I should’ve done to begin with and paid $20 to have them fixed and I am happy with the results. It wasn't neatly done. I had my gel manicure here the other day and you can feel lots of bumps in the nail (probably from filing the nails and she didnt brush it off neatly). The paint also exceeds the nail line so it easily catches on threads of your clothes. She had to redo 2 nails but I saw the line so hadnt had the chance to ask to redo the other messy nails. The color selection was good though, and wait time was short. Gel manicure lasted probably like 25mins where other parlors really spend more time cleaning and painting.
