I’ve spent some time reflecting on my experiences with Dr. Arti Patel before deciding to share this feedback. Unfortunately, both of my appointments with her were very disappointing and left me feeling concerned enough that I've not gone back to any Eisenhower facility.
During my first visit with Dr. Patel, I brought up additional concerns when she asked if there was anything else I wanted to discuss. However, she interrupted me mid-sentence and emphasized that we needed to focus on the primary issue I came in for because of time constraints. This approach felt dismissive, especially since I had been invited by her to share my thoughts and "any other concerns".
In my second appointment, I expressed concerns about the medication I had been prescribed, particularly regarding its side effects. Instead of addressing these issues or offering alternative solutions, Dr. Patel seemed to downplay my experiences by suggesting they were unrelated to the medication. When I pointed out that the medication could penetrate the blood-brain barrier and is known to cause a number of side-effects, she responded with what felt like defensiveness rather than a willingness to engage in a constructive dialogue.
What struck me as particularly odd was her body language during our conversation. At one point, she gestured with both hands in a chopping motion for each word while asking, "What -- can I -- do -- for you?" The entire interaction felt out of place, unprofessional, and borderline weird.
At one point, when I deferred to her expertise by saying, "but you're the doctor," she immediately replied with, "well, you're the patient," and then stared at me blankly. This interaction was unsettling, as it seemed -- once again -- more confrontational than collaborative. After staring at me for a bit, she then stood up and began to leave without resolving my concerns or even really saying anything.
These experiences left me feeling unheard and unsupported. I ended up canceling my follow-up appointment due to both a lack of confidence in her approach and the overall lack of progress in general. It’s also worth noting that there are many alternative medications available for my condition, all of which could have been explored but were not mentioned during our appointments. Unfortunately, the medication prescribed not only failed to treat my symptoms but actually made them worse. After working with another doctor I was able to stop taking the medication and my symptoms (side-effects) have subsided.
I find it concerning that this kind of interaction might represent the future of medicine in this country. While I understand that miscommunication can sometimes occur, it’s still disheartening to feel unheard and dismissed during what should be a supportive and collaborative process.
I was initially super excited to meet her and was very hopeful when I first started talking to her. But that only lasted a few minutes before realizing that instead of getting a young whip-smart doctor, I got a young, angry, shallow excuse for a health professional, resulting in an overall weirdly uncomfortable experience that I frankly hope nobody else has to deal with...
Read moreDr Javier & Dr Milam are horrific uncaring Dr's to say the least. Dr Javier is very dismissive and does not listen to his patients. Dr Milam isn't as caring as he comes across. My experience with these two has made getting the help I need impossible. They put me on a medication I had no business being on and now I can't get the help I need. I've never felt so lied to and disrespected by two so called Dr's. My life has been miserable and only got harder since the day I met them and regret ever trusting them with my care because they've made it impossible to get the...
