Seemingly alledged unethical practices at this "non-profit". So unfortunate if so as I used to love coming here. I got to Ermils in Central City at 10am when it opened. I saw a painting stated that I wanted to purchase it but would need assistance getting it down. No sold was marked on it, nor was it moved to the back if it had been sold. A volunteer named * was talking with a regular customer who has a shop with resales of "finds". The customer then said she may want it after I did and so I began to question this with the volunteer, who then said that the customer wanted another painting last week of similar theme, but it sold so she wanted to give this customer first dibs...
Wow.
I stated that that is not allowed as I asked for a dresser to be held due to a similar situation mere months back and I was matter-of- factly by a "long-time" volunteer AND as I recollect this same volunteer of today that, "No! No holding or 1st dibs allowed " and that rather, I need to show up at 10am when they open next after the item was priced, which I did.
Well that "longstanding" Ermils rule changed in front of my eyes today and when I gently continued to questioned this, the volunteer-s story then changed state that she let this customer in early ,which she if fact did, before they opened at 10am and that was where this customer stated she wanted this painted...
That didn't jive at all as if so, to let individuals in before opening for One, then sell things or hold things as in her new story before they officially open at 10am -- and of which the customer had not yet "decided" even stil (Ahem), again, not marking them sold or pull them -- and Two, when I stated I wanted this, it appeared as it was the first time customer laid eyes on painting as they began to examine it, thinking/speaking out loud if they "wanted it" , .... as they deciding if they wanted it or not... AND TO This, volunteer stated to me, again, that this customer had first dibs whether this customer wanted this painting or or not... Just unbelievable, unprofessional experience and seemingly unethical which hurt the most if so, as it unfortunalely appears. I understand this is volunteer run but this appears as grossly unfair business practices with preferences given to certain customers which is not what I believe this establishment stands for. Ironically, I was preparing a substantial donation to Ermils in my upcoming personal estate trust preparations, sadly no more with this "non-profit ".
