Boswell's Pipes & Cigars — Local services in Chambersburg

Just like everyone else, my experiences here have been so far above and beyond, from the high level, old world, small town American customer service to the extremely high quality of their products...they've made a customer for life out of me.

Luckily, I can drive here in a little over an hour, which I will gladly do instead of ordering online just for the pleasant conversation and service!

My first trip up, I tried a sampler of 12 different tobaccos (as part of an online pipe club), which Archie kindly helped me with.

I loved these tobaccos so much, I wanted to try 12 more! Only one was a bit too sweet for me but again, the tobacco was still of the highest quality. Just my individual taste!

This latest trip, I was talking with Lee about pipes and shared my experience with some occasional hot/tongue biting experiences among my last tobacco sample purchase. Maybe user error?

I said I've found 9mm filtered pipes are best for me, since I smoke pretty wet and it also cuts this nagging heat I sometimes got from the smoke. Lee listened, nodded, and I guess could tell I wasn't complete newbie as he said I probably just need to use better pipes.

Come on... I mean, I know the Boswell pipes have as high a reputation as the tobaccos online and all but, really? Just buy a Boswell pipe and it should smoke better?

Well, I took a leap of faith and wound up leaving with two Boswell pipes and voila... Pipe smoking nirvana. I was actually chuckling to myself as I smoked a large bowl of Rum River (an aromatic blend I'd guessed would be a hotter burning tobacco) on the long drive home. The pipe never got hot to the touch, like nearly all the other new pipes I'd tried, and the smoke was just perfect all the way to the bottom of the bowl. Never lost its flavor, never got hot enough to cause tongue bite...just blissful.

Boy... Lee was right!! I'm now a convert to both Boswell's great tobacco blends AND their fine pipes.

The pipes are not cheap by any stretch but they are VERY high quality, handmade (locally, at that) and they are just PERFECT smokers in every way.

Only problem now is that I risk going losing hundreds of dollars replacing most of my current pipes with Boswell pipes!

I really hope that Boswell carries on and prospers for the rest of our lives and beyond.

The tobacco is just as special as their pipes; Boswell are truly artisan tobacconists and pipe makers. Cheers to the Chambersburg crew! Next...

This place was once a great place to get your pipe tobacco needs but since his son took over this location it has went down hill fast the tobacco is stale because it is left there for God knows how long and prices are way too high for the adverge person to afford anything I know they like to cater to the college professors that are in the area but still the common man should be able to get things there as well plus the pipes they sell cannot be cleaned because they will have a groove were the pipe cleaner is because of the cheap wood they use to make them I know this because I got two pipes there and both times they were over priced junk also there blends all have the same base and there is really little to no difference about them so if you think your going to get a good product here then think again update also forgot if you go to there website they give you one price for a once of tobacco but they require you to buy two talk about taking away...

Went in recently to ask a few questions before making my first pipe purchase, was immediately greeted by staff who could not possibly have been more helpful. I was given all the answers I was seeking. When it came to purchasing a pipe I was of course shown their handmade pipes which are exquisite but a bit spendy for a first pipe, then also shown some less expensive options. I was then treated to testing aroma of several of their tobacco blends. I made several purchases while there totaling around $130. I was then offered to go into their lounge or sit outside and enjoy my first pipe, and also offered a complimentary cup of coffee. Overall an excellent establishment. There aren’t many tobacconists left and this is a fantastic one. 10/10 highly recommend for all your pipe and cigar...
