It gets one star because I cannot go lower. I will add that in 2011 I was a very happy member and held a membership there for several years, however that management team moved on in the time I left being a member during pregnancy and surgery. I have held off on this review for a VERY long time giving them the benefit of the doubt. The manager turnover is ridiculous. I got swindled by 2 of them who magically didn’t work there the next time I went to deal with the lies. The owner is the real problem. He is the biggest liar I have ever encountered, and by encountered I mean emailed. He is never around and never available. Yet his managers can lie and get you into something, say they will fix if you aren’t happy, but the owner is the only one who can.
If you want to know about this place, visit the BBB. I had to take it there after I was charged for an entire year after I was supposed to be. That contract even only happened because the owner would not get back to his managers to assist in how I was falsely signed up by a manager who was gone 2 weeks later.
My lesson from the BBB, you will get no resolution because he will lie over and over and say things you did not say, or use one email where he says he will do one thing and doesn’t. There are very similar cases and his responses are all the same. Stay away! It’s a franchise and Golds Corporate can’t...
Read moreOnly reason I am posting 1 star is because I can't post ZERO stars! Gold's Gym may be beautiful inside, but they are operating a scam geared to suck every month of membership out of you that they can. Oh, yeah, so easy to join, but when you want to cancel your membership the manager Wes Karns and his team of scam artists will delay and have you coming in week after week, dragging it out, making you come back again and again until SOMEONE is finally able to give you the form to cancel AFTER the next posting date to take one more monthly payment out! Sure, I was in there once a week for a full month trying to see Wes the manager, the ONLY PERSON in the whole place with the power to cancel the membership. Never did lay eyes on him. Suddenly, after the deadline for the next monthly payment, miraculously I was able to sign a form to cancel without the POWERFUL one there. But, since this bunch of con artists say I have no record of trying to cancel before I signed that form, they claim I didn't cancel before that deadline, even though I was in there so often that the trainers knew who I was as soon as I came in the door. The Gold's Gym in Charles Town is the most unscrupulous place of business in the area with the worst customer...
Read moreI would think that Gold's Gym being an international corporation would have better customer service and want to retain their current memberships, after all it's their members that put food on their table. I signed my son up for VIP and paid the year upfront in June. I noticed in July that I was charged a monthly fee. I tried to contact the manger by phone several times and did not hear back, so I walked in to talk with him about the charge and he was not available "convenient". I finally received communication from the Charles Town WV GG manager and was assured that the charge would be backed out and returned. Apparently Golds Gym had a 2nd membership established for my son. I was told that the 2nd membership would be terminated and that this would resolve the issue going forward. A second monthly charge was made for August, I again contacted the Charles Town GG manager and was told again it would be resolved. When contacting my credit card company it was discovered that the July charge was never backed out, so I had to dispute the charge. I am hoping that this matter will be resolved. I can say with certainty that we will not be renewing my sons membership, instead we will try their competitor Anytime Fitness which has 4.5...
