I recently had a disappointing experience at the Waffle House in Charles Town. I had arranged to meet a former colleague and Chamber member for breakfast, but Harpers Ferry was overcrowded, so I suggested Waffle House. Being from the South, Waffle House is a staple, and I was eager to share its culture, atmosphere, and charm with my friend. Unfortunately, this visit did not live up to the Waffle House standard I know and love.

My friend drove over an hour to meet me, only to be harassed for being late. Meanwhile, I was already seated and drinking coffee as a paying customer. The staff rushed me repeatedly, asking when my friend would arrive. This is not the kind of treatment I’ve ever experienced at Waffle House anywhere in the country. If I’m sitting alone and drinking coffee, taking 15 minutes to decide what to eat, what’s the difference between that and sitting while waiting for a friend who drove a long way to catch up and needed support?

The most incredible hard working staff I have ever seen! A women behind the counter, Who may have been the manager, told stories and engage the Customers and staff! The atmosphere was light, fun and engaging. This atmosphere must have been what it was like visiting a diner in the 1950s! Before large corporations destroyed communities. The Waffle House waffles have that delicious vanilla flavor. I treated myself to a large breakfast, which I never eat. It was beautiful! We started with The coffee, which rivals Dunkin donuts! I drink one cup of coffee in the morning. I had 2 cups of coffee for this breakfast. Breakfast arrived with yellowy warm grits with marvelous texture and delicious flavor. The perfectly crisp sausage patties were not too greasy. The Toast had the perfect yummy crispiness and the waffles!
