GDC Home — Local services in Charleston

The things I have bought from GDC have been gifts for friends whose homes I was visiting. Each time the staff was very helpful and also gift wrapped the items. However, the one person that works at GDC that I have found the most helpful has been Allen Phillips, one of their interior designers (he also does all of their displays). When we moved to Kiawah he helped me sort though all of our things, decide what to re-upholster, what colors to paint the walls, how to place the furnishings and came up with the most creative picture hanging arrangements. He then helped me once again when we downsized and when we moved my parents. He is nonjudgmental, and is a calming influence. He made old pieces fit in with new, and never once made me feel that I had no decorating sense. If my husband and I disagreed on where to place certain things, Allen was able to calmly guide us in the right direction. Without Allen I would have been lost. He measured and planned where everything would fit, and even came on the day of the move to make sure the movers placed everything just right. In my work as a realtor, Allen has been able to guide me and my clients in color selections and furniture arrangement to make homes easier to sell. I can't believe it's been 15 years since I moved to Charleston and was referred to GDC Home in West Ashley. I walked in, was welcomed warmly and found personal service, great style, and an incredibly approachable and warm staff. The experience has only gotten better over the years! I'm fortunate enough to work directly with design consultant Heather Rowland, currently managing our fourth project together - in addition to lots of small tweaks she's guided me to pull together.

Heather is one of Charleston's true design gems, with a particularly strong knowledge of textiles, upholstered pieces, and selecting fabrics. She recently pulled together a rich design story for my dining room that we love!

This place is fantastic! I had recently broken my current bedframe and called to see how they could help.I was nervous because of current supply chain issues it might take me a while to get a new bedframe. After talking to a design consultant she mentioned I could buy things off the floor she then went above and beyond to send me pictures of what was on the floor after asking me a few questions of what I was looking for. She even arrange the same day of delivery of the new bed frame. There was a little bit of damage on the bedframe she notified me right away and worked with her manager to give me a credit on my purchase without hesitation.
