The only reason I’m giving this 4 stars is because I was a frequent customer and their food was always hot, delicious, and fresh!!! I am also giving it 4 stars because the owner fully refunded me after I didn’t receive my food and he/she clearly knows how to treat people who patron his restaurant. I was a little early for pickup, so I understood that my food wasn’t ready. But there have been times where I have done the same and it was, so I didn’t think anything of it. The manager at this location told me that I would need to go through Chow Now who I originally ordered through. Ok, understandable. AFTER I left and contacted Chow Now, they called and she told them she will only be issuing me a partial refund because my fries were ready and not my sandwich. She failed to tell me this in person, “because she’s not gonna sit up here and argue”. Yet proceeded to just that almost blowing out my ear drum out with all her yapping like a rabid dog! The fact is, she knew exactly what she was doing. In fact, the other young lady at the counter told me they were just starting on my order, so of course I’m going to think nothing was ready! I didn’t make a fuss, nor was I angry because it wasn’t their fault that I was early. I just simply asked for a refund. After finding out that her intentions was to never fully refund me. I called up there and spoke with her in what started out as a calm conversation. She then got EXTREMELY rude, raising her voice, and started yelling and over talking me. Very nasty! Worst customer service I have literally EVER received and as someone who has been in customer service for years, this experience was mind blowing. I live far from this location but I come here for work and planned on bringing my kids here to enjoy food and ice cream one Saturday because it’s seriously one of the best locations quality wise and because our location closed down. But it’s safe to say I won’t be a returning customer. I don’t do well with nasty and mean managers who talk to people like they don’t care if they receive their business. Good luck to that lady, because one day she will talk to the wrong person like that! Thank goodness I have changed, I almost drove back up there and asked her to speak to me just like she did over the phone but she isn’t worth it and never will be. I hope whatever she brought on her shoulders to work with her today, gets better! Read moreWe have been coming to the Sam Rittenberg, West Ashley Restaurant for a couple of years now and I keep forgetting to write the review! We ABSOLUTELY LOVE Ms. Rosie 💝 and Sweetheart Amani 🩷 The food is ALWAYS perfect ( so hard to decide on because everything is just so delicious!) The store is always clean and organized and everything is stocked up and neatly placed on each table. The floors and the bathrooms are clean and well maintained. These two ladies MAKE Ye Ole Fashioned GREAT!!! You honestly NEVER have anything to complain about or even ask for because Ms. Rosie and Miss Amani take excellent care of us AND we notice that they are the same way with every customer they deal with. As if we are all like family to them. (The saying, “treat others as you would like to be treated and treat others like you would like YOUR Own Family to be treated”! It Is a quote that they take very seriously and they always do that!) We always hope to see their smiling, happy faces when we walk through the door every visit ☺️ and are pleasantly surprised when they ACTUALLY are there that day or shift. There’s nothing personal against the other employees who work there because everyone is nice and they are always helpful but they are just not Rosie and Amani because they go ABOVE and BEYOND to make our visit as enjoyable as they possibly can and when we do come, it’s as if they roll out the red carpet for us! This is not a fine dining location but a casual eatery- the prices do not make sense.
I even caught an employee smoking vape while on shift INSIDE the cooking area. How could this be allowed?

Thank you for your response, before denying any employees smoking or vaping while on duty; maybe you may want to check your cameras and verify before assuming that what I’m sharing is false.
While I’m empathetic with inflation and rising food costs, I have patronized many businesses- their prices, in general, are justifiable. However, I will respect your explanation that the prices are upfront, and it’s my choice or not whether to patronize a business.
As for bringing down local businesses- I write honest reviews based on my experience regardless of what business it is; if I see something right, I would say so. I did tell you your place was sparkling clean. The criticism was focused on two issues (1) highly unusual prices, but I cannot speak for your business, and
(2) if I saw an employee smoking vape while on duty and indoors, that’s a health violation regardless of what area they are in. So rather than defend the cooks, maybe take a look at your videos and then take appropriate action. I wouldn’t make up things like this if it were not true.
I can applaud the burger was good. Fries and soda for $6 is ouch because there’s no option to ask for a smaller order of fries with a drink.
To think of a family of four spending probably close to $100 for a meal and a scoop of ice cream is hard to swallow, considering it’s a casual eatery.
Local business or a chain, people depend on reviews to make an informed choice, and you have a generally stellar rating, so my review will either be agreed upon or disagreed by patrons; that’s America- the freedom to choose a restaurant or patronize a business. This is the point of Google Reviews or any review site.
