We rolled into Charleston, South Carolina, and let me tell you, the whiteness here is blinding—like the sun reflecting off a freshly polished yacht. The air is thick with pretension, and it feels like everyone’s looking down their noses at us. Our trusty sidekick, an African hybrid cat, is along for the ride—registered as a service animal for my fiancée, of course. As we strolled down those pristine streets, the locals couldn’t help but act like they were born with a silver spoon lodged firmly in their throats.
This city could use a hefty dose of humility; it’s so pristine that the absence of homelessness feels staged, like a movie set. I came here eager to indulge in what’s touted as the best dining experience, but I left feeling more than a little disgusted. The food might have been fine, but the people? Terribly pretentious. Read moreIts swinging benches, shady areas with benches and water fountains, and piers overlooking the water make this one of the most scenic spots in Waterfront Park. , also called The Vendue Wharf is a wide, wooden pier that extends into the water as far as the burnt pilings of the old steamship terminals. Those burnt pilings are still visible in the water.
After visiting its famous Pineapple fountain, and enjoying seeing kids enjoying the fountain at the north side of the park, we walked towards the pier. Saw a signboard of a big hotel coming soon.
2-3 waterfront swings are there, wanted to sit on those swings, but they were all occupied. The pier has some benches, and this is the same spot, where cruises stop. We enjoyed the sunset view, and smooth breeze, and looked around, a different aspect of Charleston one can see....
