I haven’t always been a fan of pre fixe menus, but my goodness, did SNOB ever change my mind.
We had reservations for the Christmas Eve seatings and both my husband and I agree - we have not had a meal this excellent in a very, very long time.
We were seated immediately upon our arrival. The restaurant was packed to the gills and it takes a bit of clever footwork to get to your table, but it wasn’t unpleasant in the slightest. Diners were happy in their various states of service and the wait staff, while most certainly busy, were composed and always moving, though never “in the weeds.” This restaurant seems to have hired or trained staff who understand how important it is that the staff appears to enjoy their job, that they take service seriously and behave professionally. Even if the food hadn’t been one spectacular dish after another, the service alone would be worth a return trip. These folks know their menu, know their timing, know how to place the plates just so on the table, show interest in the diners, and make you feel welcome to dine at your leisure.
The Christmas Eve menu had a delightful variety of choices and if the other dishes were as delicious as ours, there was no way to go wrong.
First course: Beef carpaccio with red wine Dijon, Parmesan, capers, arugula, and baguette. The carpaccio was so tender, that it melted on your tongue, bright with the Dijon, punctuated by that pop of the caper and tempered by the soft, but nice chew of the baguette. (So many times, we’ve been served over toasted bread with carpaccio. Not so at SNOB. It was perfect!)
Whipped Ricotta and Prosciutto with honey, arugula, and baguette. What can I say? It took every bit of restraint I had not to pick up my plate and lick any streak of ricotta that remained on my plate! Perfectly whipped, not grainy in the slightest, with the correct amount of honey. Paired with the salty bites of prosciutto and the peppery snap of the arugula, this dish is going down in my diary as a favorite!
Main courses:
Tenderloin of beef with truffle butter, steak sauce, served over mashed red potatoes. Delivered to the table perfectly rare, my dining companion snapped it up without sharing a bite with me - quite unusual - and didn’t have to add salt or pepper, as he so often does, to one, single bite.
I indulged in the rack of lamb with marinated feta and crispy fingerling potatoes. I will never NOT wonder how the chefs here made a side dish as much of a star as the protein. The feta marinade had a creamy, tart kick and the potatoes somehow stayed crispy on the outside despite being awash in the feta/marinade! Hot, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside all combined with the exactly and incredibly perfect amount of salty feta and an hint of rosemary…astounding. The lamb itself, ordered rare/medium rare was exceptional. Again, had I not been in polite company, I would’ve cave-womaned those little ribs and nibbled them clean of every bit of meat left. The lamb was soooo tender and infused with favor. I don’t know how they did it! The muhamarra sauce underneath was right on the money as it was neither too tart nor too spicy, but the perfect blend of both, arriving almost as an exotic, light barbecue sauce. It only complimented the lamb, never overpowering it. The portion of the sauce was measured as well - neither too much. Exactly enough. I could drink a bowl of it!
The old fashioned ordered by my husband was served exactly correct. No tricks, smoke, or mirrors. Made as it should’ve been, muddled and measured, he truly enjoyed it.
I entertained my curiosity over a “mocktail” of blueberry and lime (I can’t remember the name…) and it was quite delicious. Wine would’ve paired better with my meal, but I couldn’t fit more in! Desserts came home with us after eggnog & nibbled of sugar cookies!
We are so grateful to our server and the entire staff that worked so hard on a holiday to accommodate those of us both without large families or other places to go to celebrate the season. Your work and service allowed us to enjoy a very...
Read moreThis could have been a Five-Star Experience. We arrived around 1pm on a Tuesday. Place was hopping! We were seated within 5 minutes and not two minutes later we had water and some yummy cornbread muffins with butter on the table! Good thing too, because we were hungry! Our server, Andrew, was conscientious, kind and personable. My wife got the Reuben sandwich without the bread. I got the Lunch Express and asked if I could substitute their Broccoli with Parmesan side for the braised collard greens. (I've never liked collard greens, no matter how they're cooked!) Andrew said he felt the Sous Chef could accommodate my request. I thanked him and waited for our meal.
The Butternut Squash Bisque came out quickly as part of my selection and it was wonderful! Then my plate arrived, delivered by another server. I had plain steamed broccoli, with some pieces of the broccoli severely overcooked. The rest still needed two-three more minutes of steaming to not seem raw. There were remnants of collard greens under the pork.
I was well over halfway through our meal before Andrew came back to check on us. I had purposefully awaited his check-in before I ate it so he could see what I was served. He apologized and immediately went to get the manager. She came to the table, agreed I received steamed broccoli and mentioned she saw it being cooked and served. Her only remedy was to bring me more broccoli which I declined. No offer for a reduction of our bill. Take more broccoli.
Was this major?? No. But the attitude I received from management was brusk and dismissive. It marred an otherwise enjoyable experience.
My wife was unable to finish her meal and Andrew asked if she wanted it boxed up. She received the corned beef, cheese, sauerkraut and pickle, but the cole slaw, special sauce and brown mustard were left out. Those were the things that made the Reuben. Again, a big deal?? No, BUT, it was a disappointment. My wife tossed what would have made another meal for her because it wasn't complete.
It's the attention to the seemingly unimportant details that make an adequate meal exceptional. We'd been directed to S.N.O.B. by a family member who loves dining here. We had to report to them our disappointment. I hope management pays attention. And...
Read moreIt pains me to write this review and only give SNOB 2 stars. My husband and I dined there a few years ago and it was beyond exceptional. Our waitress was one of the best we’ve ever had and the food was delicious. So last week when I went to visit a friend who recently moved to the area I took her to SNOB for dinner. I had been telling her how fabulous the restaurant was and it was one of the best dining experiences I have had. Well, let’s just say I don’t think my friend will ever be back (and neither will I)
We had 6 pm reservations on Tuesday, September 16. We were seated at a table for 2 by a window. I do not know the name of our waiter because he never introduced himself to us. After we were seated, someone quickly came and filled our water glasses and gave us bread. Then we sat there and waited, and waited, and waited for our server to come to our table. He finally did and asked us what we would like to drink. I ordered a bottle of sparkling water and my friend ordered a glass of wine. He returned with 2 wine glasses and my bottle of water. I think he forgot about the wine because once again we sat and waited. At least 5 minutes went bye and I finally caught his eye at the bar (he was talking to some coworkers) and you could tell by his facial expression that he realized “Oops. I forgot her wine.” He came with the wine and we ordered our entrees. I ordered the filet and although the meat was very tender and cooked to perfection, it was barely warm. It probably sat too long waiting for our waiter just like my friend and I did during our entire time there. I didn’t send it back because I could never find our waiter and I figured it would take too long.
I love eating out at fine dining establishments and I usually tip at least 20%. I didn’t even leave a 10% tip and I feel that was too generous based on the awful service we got. I expected a better experience for spending $138 (not including the measly $9 tip I left) for 2 entrees and 1 glass of wine! I will never eat there again when...
