The mute/ring switch on the left side of my Apple XS Max would not stay on the ring side of the switch. The end result was my phone was always on silent. The phone was only five months old and covered under Apple’s warranty.
I first went to Verizon, my cell service provider, for assistance with my problem. Verizon told me that the phone was not covered under the warranty and because I had not purchased insurance on my phone my only option would be to get an upgrade.
I then went to a cell repair shop. They told me they could repair the switch for $150. They reminded me that once the repair was made the warranty on my phone would be void.
My next stop was an authorized Apple repair shop. The gentleman at the shop told me they would have to mail it to Apple and I would be without a phone for at least five days. He then warned that in all likelihood Apple would not honor the warranty contending that the phone was damaged
I finally went to Wireless Depot. Zak looked at the phone and saw no evidence of damage. He was confident that Apple would honor the warranty. I told him I was going to Pittsburgh for the weekend, so he encouraged me to call Apple Care and schedule an apt at one of the three Apple retail stores in the area. I scheduled an appt for the next day. Zak also told me that in the unlikely event Apple denied coverage under the warranty, he would fix the switch for $100.
At the Apple store, I was immediately greeted by a technician. She took a few minutes to try and remove any debris that might have been impeding the switch. When she was unable to repair the phone on the spot, she swapped me out a brand new phone. She also told me that should the phone break again outside of the warranty period, Apple would replace it for $600, or half the price for a new one.
I am eternally grateful to the fellas at Wireless Depot. They were honest, helpful, and obviously knew what they were talking about. These guys understand the value of good...
Read moreI went to get the screen replaced on my Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus because I don't have insurance through my wireless carrier. The employees were welcoming, nice, and understanding. When I asked about a competitor's pricing for the same service, they even called the competitor and put it on speaker phone while they asked how much it would be to replace my screen. Wireless Depot was cheaper.
They ordered my screen, which was hard to find in the correct color, and as soon as it got in, they replaced it the same day in about an hour. My first replacement had a dead spot in it and the adhesive wasn't sticking correctly. I took it back to Wireless Depot and explained my dissatisfaction. They immediately ordered another screen (and paid for expedited shipping so that I'd have it before I left on a big trip) and when that second screen came in, Zach installed it same day again, and it was flawless - and free of charge.
The ONLY reason I give them 4 stars is that they are more expensive than Samsung. I didn't know this until AFTER I'd paid for my new screen on that first day of going in to see them. I looked online and easily found that Samsung will replace an S10 Plus screen for about $55 cheaper than Wireless Depot.
However, with the customer service and keeping good on their word about their 30-day warranty, I was satisfied with my visit to Wireless Depot. Plus, they did it in a very timely manner that suited my summer plans, and I don't know how long it would've taken Samsung to fix mine. Additionally, I was able to keep my half-useable phone while the screen came in, whereas with Samsung, I would've had to send my phone to them. The trade off, for me, was worth the extra money.
Definitely recommend at least stopping in to see if/how they can help you. However, I also recommend checking your phone manufacturer's pricing for replacements beforehand, especially if you have the time and flexibility to go without your phone...
