Big Lots — Local services in Chesapeake

Customer service was..... lacking.

I went to purchase a nearly $1000 dollar mattress that was called ahead for by my local Big Lots (North Military Hwy- who have great customer service!) since they were out of stock on it.

Honestly, if I could have picked that mattress up elsewhere, I would have just left without it, even after the 30 minute ride. For the amount of money spent, it would have been appreciated for the vibe in the store to not have been one of me incoviencing the store because I chose to make a purchase.

I understand under staffing, I understand wait times... what I struggle with is a helping of mansplaining how a mattress works after knowing another store called ahead for me to pick it up, and absolutely no offer to help me get it to my vehicle, or for me to pull up to the curb to get it.

Fortunately, it is unlikely I will return to...

They were close to closing time when I went in so my time was pretty rushed to start with. I looked at the couches and mattresses being that was my reason for the trip. I asked about 3 different couches and each one I asked for the guy said that it wasn't available /out of stock..What sense does it make to have out floor models and then don't have it available. I can see if it was just one but 3 different couches I was told weren't in stock. I don't know if it was because they were really out of stock or if it was more because they were about to close and the guy working didn't want to be bothered with it. The store was fairly clean and it was well lit. I was hoping to try some recliners, but the furniture was so close together it made it very difficult. Since the furniture was placed so close together, I could not recline the recliners.

Many of the shelves were empty and there was only one cashier with a long line. (Note: this is during the staff shortage and product shortage of fall 2021.)
