I am in my last semester (of seven [two summers including]) at TCC and really enjoy coming to this campus. As a Computer Science major, TCC has a surprisingly good program, especially at this campus. I am not a fan of city schools, more of a rural person and driving here for class was so peaceful compared to Norfolk's busy streets. It is a really beautiful campus, but beware of the geese, they tend to be quite aggressive. Every teacher that I had/have are amazing, and willing to work with me, if I ever struggled with any homework problems. I live on the opposite side of the Bridge Tunnel, so being willing to drive 45+ minutes on any given day to class, shows how much I enjoy this campus. Definitely use Rate My Professor as a guideline when choosing teachers, as some (word of mouth, not that I have personally witnessed) tend to teach differently. If you treat your teachers with respect, and like a friend, instead of a person who gives you stuff to do for no reason, you will do just fine in attending this college-campus. I am definitely going to miss TCC, especially this campus, as I move on to my four-year university. But am blessed/thankful to have had an opportunity in attending such a beautiful place.
FYI: TCC has a Math Honors Society known as Mu Alpha Theta, I would recommend asking Professor Taylor (sponsor for Chesapeake) if interested in joining. Also do not forget to join Phi Theta Kappa. They do incredible outreaches within the community and offer benefits with GEICO as well as transfer scholarships to universities...
Read moreIf you are trying to get financial aid, expect it to take months. Every time I call or go to this campus they tell me I need to bring a very specific verification document. They either tell me it’s the wrong document (even though it was the exact document I was told to bring), or they accept the document but a week later tell you that you need another document a long with that one. Calling to ask about the status of your financial aid doesn’t help either, they basically tell you it takes time to process even though it’s been WEEKS since submitting your information. Then when you go to register for late classes, (because it’s hard to register on time if they keep telling you that you need more documents for your financial aid) the “counselors”laugh and tell you that you will have to hunt down your classes as if it’s youre fault that you’ve been constantly misinformed by the staff at TCC. They don’t explain anything, just silently write stuff on a sheet without telling you what it means, hand that sheet to you, and send you to figure out how to register for classes that you don’t have the slightest clue on what they are, because nothing has been explained. On top of this they have been closed for 3 days straight now for a hurricane that has yet to even come, so don’t expect anything you submit to be processed in time...
Read moreOffice people are extraordinarily rude and NEVER wanting to do their jobs. My partner tried calling multiple times. During their business hours (1pm-5pm), half of the time he called a robot answered saying “call back during our business hours of 1-5pm”. Even though he quite literally called during then. On top of that, when they did get back to him, it was AFTER their business hours. Be so for real right now… Then when he went in there to speak to the people he was trying to get ahold of this whole time. They were chatting, one was doing her make up and acted bothered that he showed up. The women in the office proceeded to consistently cut him off as he was trying to speak about what he needed help with, and repetitively said “oH tHe SyStEm iS DoWn, ThE sYsTeM iS dOwN.” They didn’t even let him finish speaking. Just automatically told him they couldn’t help him. They also told him his papers from the military “weren’t safe” and refused to help him any further. The women told him to try again in a few days. Unbelievably unprofessional. Someone needs to train them in not only customer service but just how to do their...
