This review is for February 14th 2024. My wife and I decided we were hungry for a take out Valentines dinner. We called to place on order 5 times but no one ever picked up so I decided to go by and order then wait for it. It was a madhouse when I walked in. The single sweet waitress was super stressed since she was the only one serving except for her manager who was helping as well as assisting cooking. All customers who showed up to be placed at a table were told that they were out of pancakes, steak and other main foods. I had a similar flashback moment when a IHOP in Norfolk that reeked was out of coffee and pancakes. The waitress was extremely nice and dedicated to helping her manager and customers even though she was tossed into this hurricane. It took 45 mins to get my order which was wrong but corrected quickly. A customer arrived to pick up their order but left due to the wait to be charged leaving their food on the counter so I purchased it since I was told it would be tossed. ( I hate wasting food since many have none) I would give it to someone who needs it if i could. I spoke to the manager and asked about the issue and was told that interviews were given to employee prospects but when hired would never show up. I also asked about basic restaurant supplies not being replenished since they were out of certain main foods. She just shrugged. I then asked if this was a franchise but was told it was corporate owned since I asked if an owner existed. These two individuals deserve so much praise for their dedication to dealing with the situation so I tipped handsomely. So many people now no longer want to work for a living since they probably are content with what they have. Those that do not have anything will work harder so maybe we do need immigrants to do what we...
Read moreTitle: Village Inn: A Missed Opportunity for Charm and Quality
Location: 1509 Cedar Road, Chesapeake
Rating: ââ
Village Inn, nestled in the heart of Chesapeake, exudes the potential to be a neighborhood gem. However, my recent experience left much to be desired. Despite the friendly demeanor of our server, the dining experience fell short in several aspects.
Upon arrival, our party of three was left unattended for an unacceptable amount of time, despite the restaurant's modest occupancy. While the handheld ordering system expedited our requests to the kitchen, the execution was lacking. Lukewarm pancakes and missing items from our orders were immediate disappointments. To add to the culinary woes, a stray hair adorned one of our entrees, indicating a lapse in kitchen hygiene.
Service recovery proved challenging as well. The absence of flatware necessitated a lengthy wait and a request to another server. It became evident that Village Inn suffers from staffing inadequacies across various roles, from table bussing to kitchen support.
Beyond operational hiccups, the restaurant lacks a distinctive appeal. With an uninspired ambiance and lackluster offerings, Village Inn fails to captivate diners beyond mere sustenance. In a community ripe with culinary diversity, this establishment struggles to stand out.
In conclusion, Village Inn has potential, but it requires a significant overhaul to realize it fully. With a dearth of staff and a lack of charm, the establishment falls short of becoming a neighborhood favorite. Perhaps a change in management or a shift towards a more intimate, mom-and-pop approach could breathe new life into this space. As it stands, I remain cautiously optimistic for Village Inn's future but will await improvements before revisiting...
Read moreOver the last few years, there has been a steady decline in the quality of food and cleanliness of the restaurant. The experience that we had this past Saturday left us completely disheartened. I dont think we will be going back to this location.
We are a family of 4 and would eat here weekly, maybe 2x weekly. When family came into town, we would always go for breakfast because the pancakes were the best around. Needless to say, we loved the food, the neighborhood feel and being recognized when we came to dine.
In the beginning of the decline, we noticed things like stale bread with our burgers or old fries. We noticed that the bathrooms were not clean and they seemed to have a bug problem for some time. Sooooo, we stopped going for a while to see if things would sort out.
We finally went back after about 6 months. Happy to say that cleanliness got better, but the food only worsened. Our burgers were small and burned, the buns were stale. The buns were 2x the size of the burger. The bread used for the French toast was stale. My son ordered strawberry banana french toast. They said the bananas were no good so they only gave him strawberries (which i am grateful to the waitress for being honest). My mom ordered a side of fries. No lie, there were 11 small fries!!!! I thought it was part of one of the kids meals. My husband received burned veggies in his veggie bowl. Out of the 9 that we went with, just 1 had no issue with their meal.
I say all of this because something is wrong here. Not sure what happened, I heard corporate had taken over. I would hate for someone to spend their hard earned money here or get sick because of old food. Please everyone share your experience so that corporate gets to the bottom of this...
