I cannot say enough positive things about this yoga practice and feel privileged to have met the kind, generous, and beautiful group of women that make up Dhyana Yoga Arts led by Deanna Sidoti and her team. From the first time I walked through their door, I knew there was something special about this place because everyone is so pleasant, helpful, and sincere, and they're like that all the time.
I've been attending the Scoliosis and Back Care classes 3X/wk for 4 months now as a continuation of post PT rehab for a recent back injury and over 20 years of scoliosis that took 3" off my height. Although I've participated in sports half my life, I never did yoga before and at 66 years old riddled with arthritis from head to toe was hoping to halt the progression of the scoliosis. The 1/2" orthotic lift I've been using in my left shoe (due to rotation in the lumbar spine) was just adjusted down to 1/4"! For the first time in the 6 years I've lived in my new house, I got up on an 8' ladder and replaced the light bulbs in the chandelier. I feel tighter, lighter, and younger.
When the stay at home order went into affect for N.J., it took less than 24 hrs for the DYA team to get the classes online via Zoom and it's GREAT!!! It is amazing how much can be achieved online with simple modifications. And Deanna, who teaches the Scoliosis and Back Care classes, always finds ways to change things up and keep it interesting. This team is so generous they offered to make grocery runs during the stay at home order for those with compromised immune systems. Can't recommend them highly enough and wouldn't even consider going...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's so interesting to me that after 40 years of managing my scoliosis issues on my own (including yoga, swimming, physical therapy exercises, and orthotics) that I have come across this new technique for managing the back issues, which is different from any other approach that I have learned. It's also interesting to meet other people who have scoliosis and some who also wore, as I did, a back brace for scoliosis years ago. I find myself mentioning things about my scoliosis openly when at the studio in a way that I have never done before. It has just become part of regular language rather than something that I keep to myself. I now understand how the spine rotates in relation to the curves, and how to position my body while doing yoga poses, sleeping or even sitting in the car so that the curves are not accentuated, and the concave areas opposite the curves are less compressed and stretched. Goodbye to the days of feeling like a pretzel. I also really enjoy the Vinyasa yoga classes, Kirtan chanting, workshops and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDhyana Yoga Arts is my favorite studio! When I moved from the area, I kept my membership to take virtual classes because I love every teacher here. You can tell how intentional the owner, Deanna, is on building a studio that empowers students to find their practice past the physical poses. Each class with her deepens my understanding of yoga and of myself in new ways. The Ropes & Slings classes are so unique and special- classes with Ally have made me so aware of my patterns and how to approach alignment that suits my individual needs. Every class with Amy includes laughter and feeling like youāre with friends, embracing challenges with encouragement. Leaās classes always make me feel strong to the core and my back feels amazing after! I learn so much about the roots of yoga from Radhikaās unique ability to tell stories while leading a flow. Each teacher has common language to make classes easy to follow, but shares their unique flare and expertise. Iām so excited they have added meditation, breath work,...
