First of all these reviews do NOT accurately show what this store is really like. Let's be real. It may be deserves 2.5 stars! I've NEVER in my LIFE EVER EVER EVER seen a nastier Kroger! See the pics & you WILL understand. I want to know WHY there was ZERO toilet paper for women in any of the stalls? Why not ANY paper towels? WHY are the employees not taking care of the bathrooms? Why are they completely neglecting the bathrooms completely? Why are the floors so disgusting? The toliets etc? A woman goes to use the bathroom and has NOTHING to wipe with. I feel way worse for the women who walk in there who had to use the number 2 or is on their period and doesn't realize until after they are done that there is zero toilet paper because let's be real it's not exactly the normal thing to have to walk into the bathroom to think that there's not going to be any toilet paper anywhere in any one of the stalls! It's not normal to have to check ahead of time!!Kroger, you guys have toilet paper in your store that you're selling people for crying out loud. Good grief, you can't even manage to keep it in the stalls?! There is ZERO excuse as to why you have workers in there who clearly do not care and by the way we all know it starts from the top. That means you have plenty of managers in that store who do not give a crud. And why would the workers under them care too if they see that that's just how the place is going to be ran? DISGUSTING isn't even the correct word! You guys should be ashamed of this store and it being under the Kroger Brand name! Also, WHY would you guys keep a toilet plunger outside of the bathroom doors out in your hallway? IF I need to take other pictures to share with the rest of the store looks like and I will to prove my point that it's not just the bathroom! Sure yes of course the rest of the store is not as nasty as the bathroom and YES of course it does resemble somewhat of a normal Kroger but I have also never been in a Kroger where they have these weird "walls" put up around all of the heath/medicine section, or women's pads, makeuo section with a worker who's in the big "cubby" style type area watching everything for some weird reason. I go to buy a bottle of ibuprofen just as one of the items I planned on getting and I couldn't even pay for it at a regular register like you do with everything else that every other store in the world or any other kroger. Instead the lady told me I had to pay at the register right there in the little cubby. Now I understand it may seem normal to people that are used to going to that store around there but everybody knows it's not normal you can go to any store anywhere else whether it's a Kroger or not and that is not normal. Ok so NO it's not good that they feel that they need to do that because there are a bunch of thieves around. So, my recommendation would be for ppl to stop being so lazy and to get a job and stop stealing from places or ppl who DO work. If you want something to, how about joining the real life world where you work so that you can purchase things and then MAYBE just MAYBE everybody else which is the majority of people who aren't thieves , will not have to feel like they're being subjected to the same ridiculous rules and regulations and being watched like a hawk whenever they're just simply shopping in the store and getting a $1.50 bottle of ibuprofen as well as other groceries to which by the way shall we remind the company that we are spending money at their store and they SHOULD remember that! SO, how about Not making ppl feel awkward and like they're walking into somewhat of a jail-like cell store. It's weird ! the whole concept is weird! There are a bunch of college students that live around there and there's a lot of traffic at that store. But what store doesn't have a lot of traffic lol? There's plenty of Krogers that have tons of traffic and their stores would never look like that! So it's not just the customers, there's no reason why the workers there should have the bathroom looking the way that it...
Read moreGood store for the consumer as far as selection and variety. It is a store that is very active so finding inventory is often a challenge for sale items, but a majority of employees are helpful, fast, and friendly.
The concern comes from internal training and this review is for individuals interested in considering work at this location for any position. It's like the lottery, you may get a good trainer or a bad one (win or lose). The problem is if you get a bad one you lose – you don’t get to play again.
In my case, one simple questions I was trying to work through seemed to develop into a 15 minute defensive responses about every little thing except the initial question :( The trainer got defensive and started to talk out loud to her friend (the department manager) about the situation with me standing right behind her (not the best thing to allow as the manager), then as much as I tried to calm the situation and seek a mediator to help resolve the situation from escalating – it was already too late...(they continued to talk loudly about my listening skills as I was just trying to calm the situation and say the initial question was not worth what this was turning into – “you don’t listen they continued to say?”) All over one simple question I had asked to help me learn that was never answered?
Some people don’t favor questions. It’s difficult to see store trainers who don’t like questions? If I was in their shoes, I would expect to listen a bunch and answer questions through-out the training process? I would not be insulted if I misunderstood their question and they tried to explain in another way or show me the problem?
There are a couple bad apples here. In a busy environment these matters are low on a scale of importance. Certain people are just not properly trained or too young to know how to handle matters professionally.
There are a couple of bad managers here that lack common etiquette and common principles (My situation should have been squashed in 1 minute). I can’t help but question what Kroger requires before making someone a trainer or manager?
There is more than one bad seed here. He was a higher level manager who was very distasteful. Not sure if he was aware or not but he would mock employees to their face – not for shared humor but his own personal humor. I had to wonder how he ever got hired to represent the Kroger brand at that level?
05/18/20 UPDATE My experience as a customer has changed my outlook at this location. More and more staff seems to think its alright to act irrational, pass simple questions on to multiple people, and ESCALATE the most simple things way out proportion. This store has left me feeling bad on numerous occasions. May employee's seem young and very defensive of their ego's.
I had one associate go as far as to lie to her manager about me cussing her out over the phone to justify her actions to me. One associate lied and told me her name was "Cathy White" when it was in fact Celestine from Customer Service of all places (she had no name tag).
If you go to this store just do not expect complete honesty or any exuberance to be helped from customer service. You can expect employee's who don't appreciate their jobs and are waiting to punch-out for the day.
I am looking forward to trying Aldi's and just going the location in Hyde Park. All employee's/departments at the Hyde Park location will surprise you in comparison to the University location (#929).
I do want to say the University location does have a good General Managers, day time Click List manager, Meat Department, and Floral Department...I' ve had consistently favorable experiences with employee's from those departments. The consistently negative experiences stem from Cashiers, the whole Customer Service department, and quite a few Click List workers (excluding the day time manager). I would really like Kroger to start weeding people out eventually. Not sure if they could though...
Read moreThis refers specifically to their Click-List service. On Sunday, March 4, 2020 I went to the Kroger store in Corryville to pick up an order placed by my wife. I have used this service before, but this was by far my worst experience. I admit that I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I could pull right into pick up spot number three and called to let them know I was there. The wait was longer than usual, but not extraordinarily extensive. When my order arrived, I opened the hatch and I spoke with one employee while another loaded my vehicle. The young man I apoke with was very nice, but clearly out of sorts. He apologized as he went through the items they had to cancel - quite a few things. He then said that if I knew howto read the substitution list, that would be faster than him reading each one. I think that about half of our selections were substituted. There were some real head scratchers: Ordered a pineapple - substituted with a grapefruit. Ordered a dozen Kings Hawaiian Rolls, original - substituted with the same, but savory butter (this seems okay until the next substitution). Ordered bakery croissants - substituted with a dozen Kings Hawaiian Rolls, original (what?). I sent back the grapefruit and three six packs of Sweet tea that had been substituted for unsweetened tea. Going through the groceries, he could not find the grapefruit (nor could we when groceries were undpacked), but took the tea and said he would be back with a new receipt. When he got back he said he couldn't get an updated receipt, but if we checked back tomorrow morning, everything would be updated. It is only 10AM, so I will give it more time, but no updates yet. When I got the groceries home, I found a number of other problems. A few other substitutions were not there. The deli order was incorrect - both ham and turkey were sliced at what I consider a medium thickness, which could be debated, except both were ordered as shaved. Also, received significantly more (about a quarter of a pound each) than ordered for each. Why do they ask for cut style if they just give me what they have ready? This is a consistent problem with deli orders. All in all, with missing products, the returned tea, and the feline order (which I would return if I could), the order is off by about $50. This...
