Fort Orange General Store — Local services in City of Albany

This street in Albany needs a winner like the Fort Orange General Store. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, and all I saw were defunct warehouse buildings. In the light of Saturday morning, I found the Irish Museum, the newsstand, the Irish New Orleans themed pub and the bottle shop. And now add the general store with immaculately clean windows, brilliant merchandising and genuinely friendly staff. One staffer greeted me and even offered to put together a gift basket for me. A pop up offered whiskeys and bourbons distilled in Albany, probably the first whiskey distilled in Albany since prohibition. This is a good historic district. Signs and plaques all over the neighborhood talk about Albany's history and specific features. What's missing, at this location, appears to be the fort, or any plaque or sign about it. I looked but found nothing. I believe the fort site actually was a bit south of this location, approximately where Madison hits Broadway, under the South Mall Arterial. There may be a plaque there. I...

Lovely and brilliantly designed store filled with a charm that instantly intrigues. F.Orange is an amazing addition to Downtown and to the city. Upon a trip to the store you'll find lots of unique items, many of which are locally owned/produced and/or locally-minded with great pride in the Capital city.
