This street in Albany needs a winner like the Fort Orange General Store. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, and all I saw were defunct warehouse buildings. In the light of Saturday morning, I found the Irish Museum, the newsstand, the Irish New Orleans themed pub and the bottle shop. And now add the general store with immaculately clean windows, brilliant merchandising and genuinely friendly staff. One staffer greeted me and even offered to put together a gift basket for me. A pop up offered whiskeys and bourbons distilled in Albany, probably the first whiskey distilled in Albany since prohibition.
