Rehab Review â A Welcome Change from Past Experiences
This rehab experience has been significantly better than others weâve encountered in the past. I want to sincerely thank some standout staff members who made a real difference in my motherâs care: ⢠Enis, the nurse manager ⢠Aileen, the social worker ⢠Tammy, my motherâs favorite aide ⢠Allen, the director ⢠Barbara, her primary physical therapist ⢠Rose, who cared for my mom the first week after her hospital discharge (which was last-minute). I hadnât yet brought clothes for her, and Rose kindly found a hospital gown to make sure she was comfortable. Her compassion was deeply appreciated. ⢠Trish, the night nurse during my momâs initial admission, was also incredibly kind and attentive. ⢠A weekday/weekend medication nurse whose name I sadly canât recallâshe went out of her way to offer help when my mother had a male aide and felt uncomfortable. That kind of care means everything.
Mom was readmitted a second time and the Nurse Manager Stephanie went above and beyond for us to try to help mom recover the 8 days she had left in her medicare short term rehab bank she is truly a sweet and compassionate person that cares about her patients.
What truly sets this facility apart is the level of heart and compassion shown by these individuals. In environments like this, genuine care matters most.
Another major plus: the range of daily activities. Compared to other facilities, this rehab offers far more engagement, including live music every Sunday, which my mother truly enjoyed.
No facility is perfect, ⢠rooms are dated- at first appearance equal first impressions. I admit I was worried when we arrived then rose and Trish calmed me with their compassion no other facility had staff that cared.
-The only ice machine is kept in a locked closet that only staff can access. Staff have more important things to do. Get another ice machine so family can do this minor task.
â˘Like many facilities, Cleaning staff needs improvement, it can sometimes smell like urine.
â˘Like many facilities, there is often a 30-minute or longer wait to use the bathroom, especially during busy hours. Hiring more aides would go a long way in improving day-to-day care.
Why This Rehab Stands Out This facility was a huge improvement over others weâve encountered: ⢠Daleview: I personally saw residents lying on the floor waiting for help. An aide forgot to lock my momâs wheelchair wheelsâshe fell and reinjured her already broken shoulder and needed another surgery. ⢠Grand Pavilion (Rockville Centre): Severely understaffed. My mother sometimes saw aides just 3â4 times a day. Her roommate, who was fully recovered, wasnât dischargedâlikely because they wanted to keep billing her full rehab stay rather than take on a more complex patient. ⢠Glen Garriff: While we didnât go ourselves, I heard from others that being transferred out of Glen Garriff into Glen Cove it was a complete nightmare.
Important Warning About 5-Star Facilities
Donât be fooled by 5-star ratings IF you have an elderly patient that might not recover it may not be for you. ⢠Stern Rehab: If your parent isnât progressing, they force discharge, even if Medicare days are left. They also do not help with Medicaid chronic care conversion theyâll likely push you out if it looks like your loved one wonât make it home.
Final Thoughts Compared to all of that, this facility was a relief. Itâs not perfect, but the compassionate care, consistent activities, and overall staff dedication made a meaningful difference. When placing a loved one, itâs not about shiny floorsâitâs about people who actually care. And this rehab had them.
There are a few bad reviews I'd like to address. There is a severe problem with hospitals discharging patients too soon, to rehab. one alarming review said something about fluid build up and their father passing away. If you feel like your loved one is being discharged from a hospital too soon put in a QIO 24 hours before...
Read moreSimply AWFUL CRUEL & Gloomy if you care about loved ones Donât put them in this place. The middle aged white lady in the front desk Margret was verbally demeaning to 2 older Latinas women Then when I commented on her tone, she became belligerent & we engaged in a verbal altercation. Where she displayed an unprofessional conduct & very temperamental (Trumpet) like behavior.Huffing, puffing & yelling is how she addressed us. She also lied when I asked for her name in truth she does look like âMary Jane. â Social worker Jacklyn is beyond cruel canceling the ambulate van I was going to pay for instead sending an elderly immobilized patient in a dirty terrible Medicaid van knowing they donât bring patients upstairs she well dam knew what she did was wrong sent with NO wheelchair or equipment which they had put an order in, but was canceled again by, them. Jacklyn knew my mom had Covid yet obviously she is desensitized or pure racist to put a 95 yr old through agony on A - 2hr drive which she was very aware about for she mentioned it to me, incomprehensible & unacceptable just plain evil. Wonder if she like for someone to treat her mom which such disregard, I can only wonder. Jacklyn also made it difficult for me to get her out of there to her home where she wouldnât be around a bunch of strangers whom though have Latinos residing there. No one even spoke her language. The facility in a whole deserves a Big Zero. My mom came in walking & talking by the time she left this place She caught Covid Yet they Never informed us though as a guest one must take a (test) with Covid kit they provide Daily & fill out 2 pieces of papers yup every visit. Almost to patronize & deter guests from visiting their vulnerable relatives & see what really goes on. Btw at No moment do they ask for any I.D. from the guests - Talk about lacking security. My mom went into deep depression & stopped eating. They claim she was eating indeed she looked like she was dying. Her bones protruding even in her face & told she was going to Die. As well developed a horrible bed sore on her back side that Iâm treating at home. She has been eating & talking & around caring family. They gave me HELL to get her out of HELL. They understaffed & only one single person spoke SPANISH & he was the janitor. The patients many have dementia so they take advantage of their weakness. They fast at throwing their titles at you as the âsupervisorâ of the nurses had Irene Linzer; believe she said. However she hadnât explained why my mother was either injected with something since blood was withdrawn; she was bandaged up. Nor did she return my calls about this matter, very convenient. Personally think they wanted her to DIE cause she is Now under Hospice Care. Which turned out to be a blessing rather being in a poorly controlled facility that doesnât care about the seniors. Must say with exception of a few nice nurses who work there the place should be SHUT DOWN. The food give you pause. Iâm deeply disturbed to write this place Donât Care about your loved ones - only the money that comes into these senior...
Read moreMy wife entered Glen Cove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on November 18, 2022, for the purpose of receiving rehabilitation following her November 15, right hip replacement. On November 26 she contracted COVID at the facility. On December 3 she died of a blood clot embolism at Glen Cove Hospital. Those are the bare bones of my wife's stay and demise. Hereâs the meat. My wife, who was 70, had other issues besides the hip, namely diabetes and obesity. On my visit right after learning of the COVID infection I learned from one of the supervisor nurses that they were going to have various tests (lung X-Ray, Doppler, blood test) performed right there at the facility. I indicated to her that I preferred that she be transferred back to St. Francis for better care. She said I could have that, but it was not necessary because they did that kind of testing all the time at the facility. I foolishly went along. Since my wife of 51 years death, I have done some research and learned that studies have been performed indicating that COVID combined with diabetes and obesity are a breeding ground for the forming and sudden dispersal of a blot clot or clots to vital organs such as the heart and lungs- the exact event that killed my wife. The facility, perhaps in its desire to maintain the revenue flow from my wifeâs uninterrupted residence, did not act in her absolute best interest. They gambled and I now must live the rest of my life without the love of my life for 51 years. Now here are two hints for improving the facility. One, hire a different social work, one that doesnât back away in fear of contracting COVID from the loved one visiting the resident who got the COVID from the facility in the first place. Cowardice. The new social worker should also consider answering phone calls live rather than taking voicemails (that she should only get one of) and never, ever answering them. Unprofessionalism. Complete lack of empathy and dedication. Two, hire a new doctor, one who doesnât have a foreign accent so thick that the listener can only understand one or two words out of twenty. My wife was severely hearing impaired in both ears. How many words did she decipher? ZERO. Overall recommendation, do anything else with your loved one than send them to this place. PS: site does not...
