I had a negative experience at the store this past week. I went into the store after trying to call and express my dissatisfaction. I could not because they staff is not properly trained to pick up phones, identifying themselves to customers, or addressing customer service issues by phone.
I went into the store, only after the customer service manager failed to identify herself over the phone, leaving me to suspect that I might not be speaking to a store leader in order to convey my feedback about a product related issue.
The staff behind the counter was pleasant and if not for them, the potential for escalation would have been higher. The customer service manager refused to identify herself in person so I took out my phone to document my interaction with her. I believe this made her upset because it added an additional layer of accountability to her role in escalating an incident that she could have resolved quickly over the phone. She called the police. Iām not sure what the reason for her call was yet, but I will FOIA the call details for further insight into her report to police. Integrity check.
The police arrived, and didnāt even ask my name because I had not done anything wrong. The police reaffirmed my right to both be there and use my phone for documentation. Regardless, the store managers name and photo are prominently displayed in the store anyway, so I donāt know why it was an issue to being with, but it would have been completely unnecessary for me to do if she had identified herself and heard me out on the phone .
Thatās only the start of the story. Now my biggest frustration is reaching anyone that has direct leadership accountability for the store. There has been only one meaningful attempt to reach me. I missed the call and returned it one minute later. That was two days ago. Iāve been in contact with the customer support team everyday since and it hasnāt moved the needle. All Iām trying to do is give my feedback directly, have dialogue, and get some questions answered to clear the air and move on. Iāve been forced to shop at another Stop and Shop store interim, but Iāve reached the point where I am going to abandon the brand due their lack of loyalty after Iāve exclusively shopped there the last 10 years. Itās a shame that they treat customers this way and itās a direct reflection of the leadership...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was extremely disappointed with my experience at this store, they seem to have done away with cashiers, leaving only one this evening and self checkout. While I understand the push for efficiency and technology, this decision comes at the expense of customer service and convenience. The self checkout lanes were crowded, confusing, and poorly managed. The lack of staff available to assist made the situation even worse. For those of us who may have injuries or are purchasing a lot of items, the process was incredibly frustrating and time-consuming. Supermarkets are supposed to be about convenience, but this setup felt like the exact opposite. The absence of cashiers also removes the personal touch and human interaction that many customers appreciate. Not everyone wants to scan and bag their own groceries after they have already put in a day at work. I hope this market reconsiders this approach. Investing in cashiers and offering customers a choice between self-checkout and a staffed register would make for a far better experience. Until then, Iāll be taking my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a store it's overpriced as hell due to it being the only supermarket in town. The floor staff are nice, though.
As a workplace, you need to be really careful - the store manager has no qualms with misconstruing laws and misrepresenting your own statements in order to terminate you. Attempts to record incidents and meetings will often result in silence and/or denied access despite NY being a one-party consent state for such things. Be extra careful about making sure they hear you when you greet them and to do so consistently - anything less will be taken as a severe act of disrespect and no amount of good customer or employee relations will outweigh the perceived blow to their fragile ego, regardless of whether or not you were busy at the time of the exchange. And don't vocalise anything even remotely related to "politics," whether it's the recession or the various diseases making a resurgence, else they might accuse you of having "too many opinions."
The minimum pay is nearly half the county living wage, but at the very least you'll be under union protection...
