Spotty Dog Books & Ale — Local services in City of Hudson

It was chance that I picked up a pamphlet and found this listing for Spotty Dog books and ale. I immediately said I have to go there!! Luckily I was taking a short trip about 25min across the Hudson. Wow was this place worth it. I could not believe the amount of people who arrived at opening (noon) I waited thinking it would be weird to be there on time. Nope. This tiny place was bustling with foot traffic within a few minutes of opening. The layout could be better, but it's also super cozy. The back room is a nice surprise. Art supplies and art trinkets and toys . The books were organized nicely and it in good condition. I cannot speak to the drinks, however the seating was ok and people were ordering their beverages. The atmosphere of the small town is exactly what I expected and then some. This is truly a must go for any...

I grew up in the area and when visiting relatives always stopped here. They sold me a German made growler with a rubber seal that no longer functioned. I was not aware that the seal had been overly compressed because they stored it in the closed position for an extended period of time. After filling the growler at their bar and placing it on the back seat of my car, it leaked all over the back seat, my car smelled like a brewery. It also lost its carbonation. The next day I went back to explain to the same bartender what had happened and that they needed to replace the seals in their remaining growlers and store them in the open position or not sell the remaining growlers lest the same thing happen to someone else. There was no offer of apology about what happened and a touch of mild irritation with my suggestion....

I've been in and enjoyed the store before and their sci-fi-fi selection balances the new and older beautifully, but this review is about ordering a popular book during COVID when the store was closed. The person who answered the phone was friendly and helpful like I would expect, but she? went above and beyond by checking an additional site and an order to find that there was already an order in for the book so I could receive it a week before book club.
