This is my favorite restaurant in the Hudson area. Top dishes are:
Memelas are easier to eat, or tlayuda for more people (not many places make this). Shrimp and lengua are my two top meats
Mojarra/shrimp soup is a great comfort soup. Pozole is also good, but was too spicy last time we ate it. The staff explained it's the peppers they use sometimes it's more spicy. Luckily the time it was spicy, they took the soup back and off the bill.
Ribs with mole/chicken with green salsa (same menu line) are my favorite combinations. I mentioned the mole was a lot closer to what I had in Oaxaca, the staff mentioned the chefs bring the mole ingredients back from there, rather than using a pre-mix. It's some good stuff and one of the better moles I had in the States. Green salsa is a more mild sauce, I like it with chicken.
The horchata is better than most places I've had it - it's well balanced and not too sweet.
Shrimp fajita is excellent, not too greasy. The steak fajita is a tad on the leaner/dryer side.
Vegetables - the kitchen let us order the Veggie Mix (option for tacos) as a side dish, and also gave us grilled nopales (cactus) one time when available.
Small off times - ribs (with mole) was a bit dry on the 2nd time I had it, although it was excellent the first time. Horchata was a bit sweeter than others one time as well.
Service is very accommodating - we ask for less salt and they try to do it for any dishes which possible. We will 100% be back whenever we are back...
Read moreAfter visiting Olana State Historic Site a group of six went to El Sabor for a late lunch. It was our first time there. We looked it up on Google Maps but didn’t know anything else about it. It’s a very casual place. A bunch of tables for four people and a counter where you go to get takeout. We pulled a table away from the wall so all six would fit at the table. If there were more free tables we would have pulled two tables together to give us more room for everything we ordered.
There was a regular menu and a menu for the specials. Both have lots of items on it. Three people ordered Enchiladas Oaxaca which were four fried tortillas filled with chicken and also came with a choice of a side of Steak or Pork. Our friends ordered Steak which was one large thinly cut piece of steak. It also came with rice and beans. My wife and I shared The veggie tacos and the red cecina which was marinated pork. Also ordered was a Burrito filled with rice beans and she chose chicken which came with two sauces. For the table we ordered the Huaraches with chorizo meal as an appetizer.
Most enjoyed their meals. My wife and I loved our meal. It’s not tex-mex which some people expect when going to a Mexican restaurant. It’s traditional Oaxacan food. We debated if I should give it a 4 or 5 star and concluded it’s exactly what it says it is and the food was delicious but might not be to...
Read moreWe never got to experience their food quality or taste. We were sitting outside on a sweltering 95 degree day and asked our waitress to seat us inside. We ordered and were waiting for our appetizers when a table became available. Waitress told us to wait for her to clear the table and we could move inside. They cleared the table and split it into two tables and promptly sat two other customers. When we confronted the waitress she said: “We don’t hold tables for costumers”. When we told her she had asked us to wait for her to clear the table, she replied “we are too busy today”. We left the restaurant and will most likely never go back. Too many other choices with excellent food and exemplary customer service in Hudson to waste our time and sour what is meant to be a pleasant experience. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but management should be more customer service oriented, lest they loose on...
