TL;DR Don't trust management. I'm currently trying to sign for a room in a 4 bedroom apartment here and have been since early August. It's now early September, a few days into the school semester here at Cornell and I've spoken to more than 3 different managers since this period due to some getting fired and some straight out leaving. Communication problems have been especially bad due to what I hope is the result of this turnover, which I've had explained to me by management as being due to the transition from Gun Hill Apartments to Auden Ithaca under new management. In the beginning of this process, I was told by my potential roommate and a property manager at the time (who has since been fired) that a short-term lease with an attractive price was possible, and this was reassured to me over the phone (because again, I was told by management to call instead of email due to "the transition period", and my experience of not having my emails responded to for over a week, if they were responded to at all), up until I came today to finish up submitting information that they told me was necessary for the application about a month after the fact when they said that everything was fine. Then when I was looking to sign the lease, I was given a completely different lease than what I was promised and was already given to my potential roommate.
At this point, I've already passed over or rejected previous housing opportunities because of this management's reassurances (which have kind of screwed me over at this point). Now I'm looking for other housing opportunities literally at the last minute, because this management has had too many problems with their communication and personnel, that I straight up just don't want to lease from them for screwing me over.
Also want to point out that during this process, two of the other people I was supposed to room with pulled out because of "problems with management's communication and promises" that I was reassured wouldn't be a problem with my application, so now there's a 4 bedroom apartment with only one person living in it because the other potential roommates were screwed by management. Really regret not realizing that was a huge warning sign, and hate myself for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām a British international student living at Auden for about 2 weeks and the first thing I would say is DONāT LIVE HERE. For starters when we arrived at the apartment it was filthy: sticky and dirty floors, broken furniture, weird stains on the sofa, and more. My roommates and I have made maintenance requests to have the never ending list of problems to be fixed by the handy men however, even this has not come without its problems. Work has been left unfinished or clearly not done properly as the same maintenance request is made again within the week. As I am from London Iām not sure how tenant landlord agreements work in the states, however it is completely and utterly ridiculous that after paying the extremely steep rent the flat is still not maintained at a high standard at all time for its tenants. Other complaints I have would be the misleading amenities advertising they have on their page. Auden advertises for a āfull kitchen appliance packageā of which there is nothing full about it, we are provided a stove-oven, microwave and fridge. I believe that providing a kettle and toaster as well as the other applies aforementioned should be the absolute basic amenities provided in each apartment. Packages that are supposed to be secured by their āpackage conciergeā are dumped in a room with very minimal security. Audenās shuttle bus services which is also advertised on their page has been down for āmaintenanceā which again is shocking as you would assume that this āmaintenanceā would be complete before the new group of tenants arrive so it could be ready for the new semester. All in all for the amount of rent they charge (which is nearly as high as rent for some apartments in London) none of these problems should exist as there should more than enough money as well as adequate management to have this all sorted to ensure comfortable living for everyone. I honestly believe it just boils down to greed and...
Ā Ā Ā Read morewe have been without laundry for over a month with absolutely no communication whatsoever of if they are even working on it. they do not communicate when the shuttle is no longer in service (so far all this week it has not been running ... because there's no laundry there's no way to wash clothes unless you trek with all of your laundry up and back). the rental office people have been unkind and untimely, deciding to close the office early or open late whenever they feel the need. the new property owner has an awful reputation for being bad landlords. at the end of business day on the 31st they gave notice that the resident portal will be down and that rent had to be made with either CHECK or MONEY ORDER and still applied applicable late fees with the promise of it being back up in a week (still no portal almost 3 weeks later). ive had leakages from my toilet, sink, and bedroom all in the span of one semester and, in the instance with the toilet, they did not replace the flooring for more than a month. when my roommates moved in on time they found the place absolutely filthy and had painstakingly cleaned it themselves. It was unsafe, as there appeared to be films of debris left over every single surface in their room alone! after the plumbing issues, which was a direct effect of the tenants upstairs all three times, they pulled the tiles in the bathroom from water damage and left us tile-less for well over a month. perhaps they had to order the material you may ask, but this is not the case. at least for the first two weeks we were contacted about them coming in to the unit to make repairs and replacements just for it to not happen, meaning i took off work and class for no reason. and when they did replace it they did not do a good job and have left (and its still there) all of their supplies outside of our front door. avoid here if possible, the cheap rent (at least for ithaca standards) is not worth the...
