This particular fall is one of several along the Fall Creek. The others are on Cornell campus. It's the easiest to get to with the best views. There are plenty of parking spots on both sides but can be missed - look for gravel pavements. That's probably the hardest part. The hike is literally 2 minutes down.
If you want to see the other waterfalls, go to the Tang welcome center. You can park in front of the Alumni hall. There's a toll. 2.25 for 1.5 hrs is probably all you'll need. Go through the welcome center to get to Bebee lake and the first waterfall and cross the river. Make a right on University and continue down this road for the suspension bridge and another turnout to a hike down the Horseshoe Falls trail. Lots of stairs. Bring water. See picture of map.
You could honestly skip these other falls and just go to Ithaca Falls but get...
Read moreOf the 5 notable falls in Falls Creek gorge below Beebe Lake in Ithaca, this one is the crown jewel, the most noteworthy and majestic in my opinion and the one that’s most accessible via a trail and almost to the point of reaching the base of the falls where one can feel, hear and see the power and beauty of a waterfall. It appears from other photos that water flow may be dependent on rainfall(obviously) but on release from dam above. I felt very fortunate in that I was able to see awesome flow and the extra treat of ice forming on adjacent sides of falls as well as icicle formation on gorge wall features. A must see while in Ithaca and will convince you of the towns mantra that...
Read moreHome of Cornell University and Ithaca College, Ithaca is also home of Ithaca Falls. We really didn’t expect to see such a large waterfall in the middle of town.
Weighing in at 175 ft in width and 150 ft in height, Ithaca Falls is 1 of 150 waterfalls within 10 miles of Ithaca and surrounding areas. This fall is about the height of a 15 story building. Ithaca Falls ended up being one of our favorites.
The trail to the falls is fairly short but a little rocky. But I would still consider it an easy walk to the falls.
If you decide to go, the fall is free of charge. And, there is a small parking lot to the right of the trail entrance or look for nearby...
