Marginal to awful. They prettied it up and moved everything around but the minimal service and rude staff still remain. Friday May 10 2024, late afternoon, busy as can be and A SINGLE CASHIER / Checkout lane open as they attempt to force every customer to work for them for free as "self-checkout" . And, as they co-opt our labor, the couple in front of me was trying to check out and having repeated trouble using the machine (the man was angry but quite civil) the employee seemed to think it was the couple's fault they couldn't use the machine and when the man complained that after several "please wait, assistance is on the way" when assistance arrived he pointed out well you could have another "manned" check out open: It's pretty busy the employee literally said, "if you don't like it you can shop somewhere else" the just like most downstate grocery stores. I shop here because I almost have to sometimes due to traffic and time. ( all 3 big grocers in the area have done remodels, S&S included, and it IS a big improvement in this aspect). But the underlying problems remain: Lots of expired and/or opened product on shelves, in coolers (Acme has same problem, possibly worse; ShopRite is much better) Also, they are forever restocking while you're shopping and couldn't care less about being in the way or blocking customers. There are one or two really EXCEPTIONAL checkout staff and I don't want to slight them or their efforts. Otherwise, annoying authoritarian, managerial staff that seem to think customers are employees that can be bossed around and dressed in manners that you wouldn't think of using with a child or stranger: They made Covid even more miserable. Next time you go upstate or better to central or western New York (or nearly anywhere), stop into a grocery store there and see what it could be like here... If anyone cared. I just don't understand how it can be so different, yet somehow acceptable to have this horrible experience here? Is it the poor community , that demands so little, so corporate just says, "let's see what we can get away with; How far we can push the customer? Is Peekskill a test market to see how low the bar can be set? I dread visits here, always leave formerly angry but now frankly beaten and dismayed... but they are so much closer to home: literally the only thing they have going for them, other than...
Read moreUndoubtedly one of the worst grocery stores in the area. Deli staff is rude, cooks that make the chickens consistently burn them, often out of very common items, managers are also incompetent and nasty. Any place is better.
Editing my review, because the response from the store stated that they are trying to improve. Fail. Went back recently just to give it a try... staff "too busy" to answer questions. I used the "Deli Kiosk" and the self-check wand. I was in the store 30 minutes, never received notification of completion of my deli order. Ready to check out, went to deli, had to wait in line to just ask about my order. The deli worker went back and picked up the slip for my order. The order had just sat for 30 minutes without even being looked at. I told them to just forget. Went to check out, and my self-check order was flagged for an "audit". At this point, I had had enough, and just put everything on the checkout belt and left.
This is the closest store to my home, but even with sky-high gasoline prices, I will drive to ANY other local supermarket to...
Read moreI absolutely DO NOT recommend using Stop & Shop delivery. Things my third and LAST order. Stop & Shop partners with Instacart and their delivery people just donât care. They left the order in front of my garage (?) instead snow rather than on my perfectly dry porch. They didnât ring the bell or knock or callâ just left it there. Also I question the freshness of some of the items I receivedâ the fresh garlic had no skin, so all the cloves are exposed and will dry out. The broccoli was in less-than-average condition and some of the apples were dimpled and brown. I asked for the receipt to be placed in the bag and I didnât receive it. Iâm also missing three items, but it seems thatâs normal for delivery orders. I called the store; the first time the call was disconnected, the second time I was placed on a lengthy hold. Could not be any more disappointed. They promise delivery times but deliver whenever they feel like it, usually 2-4 hours late. They substitute without communication and donât even try to substitute with a...
