Not for the Bougie. I should know better.
When you get your hair done at someoneâs house instead of a salon, you already know what to expect. I should have known better, but I thought that given Nancyâs 13 years of experience I would be fine or at least okay. I had crochet braids installed at Legacy Braids. Before arriving I provided a picture of the style I wanted that even had an instructional video. To plan for my day, I asked how long it would take to complete the process. PROLBEM 1: I was told the service would take 3 hours. It took her 7 hours, and that was only because I rushed her towards the end. Iâm almost certain it would have been 8 hours if I had not made it clear that I needed to leave. PROBLEM 2: Despite being provided a video of the style I wanted, she decided to do a curl not in line with the picture/video provided. Given that I had been getting my hair done for several hours at this point, I just wanted it to be complete. PROBLEM 3: Several of my friends looked at the back of my hair and informed me that there is at least an inch of braid that doesnât have any hair installed. So at this point, I have crochet braids that werenât installed completely with a curl that I didnât want and a process with a realistic complete time of 8 hours that I was told would be 3 hours. I was fine with paying her and walking away from the relationship, but another problem came up. PROBLEM 4: Nancy asked me several times to complete a Google review, which I was not planning on doing because I didnât feel it was my place to poorly rate her business. I informed her that I hadnât completed a review because I wasnât happy with the finished product. I was under the impression she knew this already. At which point, she called me ungrateful and hard to please. She also reneged on her offer to re-curl my hair to the curl I wanted originally. Incidentally, she also asked me to take my business elsewhere. As I mentioned, I should have known better not to get my hair done in a residential home because that brings a whole bunch of problems that I am simply to bougie to deal with at this stage of life. If you have graduated from getting your hair done in someoneâs home for all the reasons why you shouldnât get you hair done in a personâs home, do not go to Legacy Braids. I am not the clientele that Legacy Braids is after. If you are bougie, you probably arenât either.
The picture provided is what I wanted vs what I got. Also a picture of me made up to provide as fair a representation of the finished product...

Read moreAsked if she could do faux locs on fine, straight hair; was told that hand wrapping would be necessary after specifying it was for a white male. After a painful five hour initial install (which took place in her home), $300.00 cash, plus two repeat visits for unraveling, and waiting seven days for the locs to loosen a bit and begin to look more natural, folliculitis occurred due to excessive tightness too close to the scalp - despite repeated unraveling below base of braids - prompting removal after only one week in an effort to prevent traction alopecia and permanent hair loss. In addition to damage to the scalp and follicles, head lice was also discovered. When contacting the owner/stylist to notify her of these problems and request a partial refund, she responded âitâs red cos ur whiteâ, âput some grease to ur scalp⌠you should be fineâ, ânot my faultâŚâ, and âyour services was rendered diligently as requested⌠do not think that I owe...
