Sabbath Coffee & Roasters is such a gem in Clawson! I stopped in on a Friday morning around 9am and had a fantastic experience.
The shop itself is small and cozy inside, with plenty of outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. Even though the space is tight, it never felt overwhelmingly loud. The decor has fun millennial vibes with thoughtful seasonal touches, and everything inside was spotless. (The outdoor tables were a little dusty, but honestly that’s just the nature of outdoor seating!)
The staff here are wonderful — smiling, kind, patient while taking orders, and quick to get drinks out.
I tried two drinks: my usual iced caramel latte and their seasonal Goober Latte. Both were excellent! The caramel latte had the perfect balance of sweetness and espresso. The Goober was a creative seasonal special — the peanut butter flavor came through beautifully, and the cold foam was thick and delicious (though I didn’t pick up much of the berry flavor). Drinks are one standard size, but it’s just right — satisfying without being too much. Presentation was gorgeous, and you can really taste the freshness of their house-roasted beans.
I also love that they accommodate different diets with vegetarian/pescatarian-friendly menu options and several milk alternatives.
A couple of extra details worth mentioning: they have a walk-up window outside, which is perfect if you’re bringing your dog, and the outdoor seating could easily accommodate families or larger groups. Parking is limited right in front, but there’s plenty available just down the street and behind the building (all free!).
Overall, Sabbath is warm, welcoming, and clearly a place that puts care into every detail. I’ll...
Read moreStopped here three times during my recent business trip. Staff were very friendly, the line wasn't huge and kept moving, and the coffee was very tasty. Be aware, they don't have any seating, it's a to-go coffee shop. And large drinks here are more like medium sized drinks elsewhere, but they're about $6 or so, very reasonable.
I stopped by on 10/31 and got the ghost pepper mocha, which had such a good, chocolately flavor and just the right amount of burn to be enjoyable. On 11/1 the halloween drinks were gone and fall/winter drinks hit the menu. I ordered the chestnut and pecan latte, which was so good! Nutty pecan flavor and a hint of maple syrup hit the spot on a cool morning. So good! For breakfast, I also snagged a raspberry muffin. I don't know who their baker is, but it was very moist, texture was perfect and chewy on the top, and had great raspberry flavor. I'd eat a dozen of these if the calories wouldn't kill me, lol.
I also had a couple brief chats with the staff and they were really nice, and happy to chat for a few minutes when they weren't busy. I snagged a bag of Ghost Killer beans to take home and just cracked them open. My first cup this morning is very tasty. Nicely-roasted, thicker body, and very good flavor with some notes of nuts, maybe a little apple, and caramel. Low acidity, like a red apple, and very little bitterness.
HIGHLY-recommended shop. Definitely stop in and try their coffee, you won't be...
Read moreIf you're not near Ferndale or Royal Oak, it used to be really hard to find a good roaster nearby. Glad I found Sabbath! Had a few questions about what would be good for my coffee setup at home and they pointed me in the right direction.
Bought two bags of whole beans today, both roasted a day ago. Amazing. They even let me try the espresso to see what it tastes like, just so I know what I should be aiming for at home. Absolutely delicious. You can tell the pride and passion they take in their products, and I loved how educational they were. Can't wait to go back and get more, try the other beans, and learn some more!
EDIT almost 2 years later (December 2022):
Seeing the growth of Sabbath and what they mean locally, both in the revitalized Clawson downtown and to those close by, has been quite amazing to see. They're doing big things and their coffee has only gotten better. All the way from their sourcing, to their roasting, to their extraction. I'm excited to see what Trevor has in store for them going forward, that team is in...
