The quality of White Wolf has dropped substantially in the last few years.
Everyone who is complementing the croissants and quiches - please know those are from Crispelli's. There are certain cakes that are from a different bakery, as well. They are not labeled appropriately, so you may need to verify with staff what is actually made in house.
I was excited when there were new house pastries to try. I tried a small citrus cheesecake (not the usual yuzu lemon slice), matcha azuki cheesecake, and ube pudding. The cheesecakes were so bland. I understand it's Japanese style, so there will be less sugar; the issue is not sweetness but flavor (I will say it was a perfect level of sweetness).
I would have expected more red bean in the matcha cheesecake, but there's just a little dot on top. I didn't get much matcha flavor, either.
The new citrus cheesecake (the one with little divots in it filled with a curd) needed more citrus flavor and had a weird film on the outside of the pastry. I peeled it off to avoid eating it. It almost felt like a film from being left open in a fridge? I'm not sure if it was that, or an intentional layer.
The ube pudding was fine. Again, not enough flavor. Only the color let me know it was ube. The caramel on the bottom overpowered the flavor of the pudding. The little container was super cute, though.
The coffee is no good. I'm a barista and the espresso tastes off. Management should make sure the baristas know how to properly dial in espresso and that it's being checked throughout the day. The coffee selection and espresso drinks used to be top tier at White Wolf up until last year. It's better to walk across the street to Sabbath.
Atmosphere is nice enough. Staff was not friendly the last two times I visited. They seemed annoyed at the fact I was there.
I just would like to see 2022 White Wolf back. Things have been bleak...
Read moreThis place is beautiful with great pastries and coffee. Very clean and located in a great area. However, if you are hoping to be greeted with a smile or even genuine eye contact from the person behind the register this isn’t even the place for it. We were looking at the menu (off to the side) and the desserts before someone says “Do you know what you want yet?” I said No and the guy just walks away, which no big deal but it just seemed a little brash in how he said it, but whatever. We then go to order our treats and my boyfriend informed him of how this particular bakery is special to us, just making small talk and the guy couldn’t be less interested. Oh well, not the end of the world, maybe he’s just having a bad day. So we wait for our food and coffee and see our plates just kinda tossed on the counter. No call out for the food just put on the counter and woman behind the counter walks away. We get our food and waiting on coffee, he calls out drinks and I went to grab it and just double check the flavor by just quickly asking “This is hazelnut right?” And I just get a kinda grunt. No eye contact or anything. Let me just add that it wasn’t busy at all, there was no line and everyone that was there was either eating or leaving. About halfway through our visit I got to buy a bottle water and upon paying it was clear I interrupted a conversation between the two workers showing each other something on their phones. As soon as we walked out we agreed to never return. It was a very icky vibe we got, like we were not wanted there. Which is a shame, because the turkey croissant is great. Hopefully no one else will have an...
Read moreThe food received full 2 stars. My review is for the flat/unfriendly customer service I encountered last Wednesday. It was my friend's birthday and I wanted to get something nice for him since he worked that night. I asked if they had the cream puff and the server had no idea what I was talking about and asked if I ever purchased one before because he never saw it made since he started working there. So I showed him a picture from my last visit and he told me that he saw something familiar made yesterday, but whatever they had today was in the display case. I ordered five items and initially, I thought he would either put each cake in separate box or all in one big container, but he kinda squeezed two Millie cakes in one small box and a shortcake with two creme brulee in big box. I asked for two extra small boxes so I could split them up when I got home and packed as a gift. He looked at me uncomfortably weird. After the purchase, he did not give me a bag until I asked and he just stood behind the counter again looking at me putting my own boxes into the bag which I did not mind but your shop wasn't busy at all. I also noticed that he carried the cakes with bare hands, no gloves nor a bakery tong, and he touched the screen, the counter, boxes, etc... I like the patisserie and hope that some items would be made like daily, and friendlier staff...
