I am so incredibly disappointed. I was so excited to come here after meeting someone that had an acrylic set done by a tech that was obviously very skilled, but unfortunately my experience was the polar opposite.
I had a full set applied by Tronie on Sunday. He took his time making sure he got the shape I wanted, so when I was done I was very happy and tipped well. However it didn't take long for my happiness to dwindle.
I have been getting acrylic nails for almost 20 years, and what happened next is simply unheard of. 8 hours after my nail application one of them came off. 8 HOURS. Ok, maybe it was a fluke. I was so excited to get my nails done here, hopefully it was just an honest mishap and there was oil on my nail. I guess it's possible.
The following day I went and asked for a repair. Everyone seemed a bit skeptical about my nail; asked what I did, what was I doing, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary, I was simply drying off after a shower. Get my nail fixed by a different tech, tipped well again, went on my way.
Fast forward to 3 hours later. Remember, this is only the second day I've had my nails. It hasn't even been 2 FULL days. Boom, there goes another nail. Half an hour after that? ANOTHER ONE.
I'm livid at this point. Clearly this guy cannot apply acrylics, and I'm sure everyone at the salon knows this, and yet they put him in charge of my full set anyway.
So I go back, for the third day in a row. At this point I just want a refund and to go somewhere else for a completely new set, because the chance of not losing any more nails was nonexistent. Well, I'm told that they'll have someone fix these 2 nails and if I lose another they'll give me a refund. So I get the 2 fixed, tip well, and tell them I'll see them tomorrow.
This brings us to today. Wednesday. Third day with acrylics. Surprise surprise, a nail on my other hand comes off. So I go, show the woman at reception that told me yesterday that I would receive a refund when this inevitably happened, and ask for my refund.
Well, apparently I should have called first (not what I was asked to do yesterday, and not my responsibility) because she, the receptionist, doesn't know how to give refunds! Oh but I'll absolutely receive a phone call todah letting me know when I can come in and get my money back.
They closed 10 minutes ago. No call, no refund, missing a nail, again.
I've never had such an awful experience getting my nails done. I'm sure there are techs there that are actually capable of applying acrylic nails, but the fact that they knowingly allow someone that is not capable of that to do it is shameful.
Update to Thursday - I was finally able to get my refund. Also, another nail came off. That makes half of my nails coming off in 4 days.
Update to Friday - 6th and 7th nail came off. I went to the place I used to go to for a repair yesterday evening (and I know from experience that at the very least the acrylics they apply have AMAZING staying power), however I had to leave before I could be seen. It seems that was a good thing, though, because yesterday evening I only had one nail that needed replacing, and today I had 3. I also required a color change because they didn't have the color I was using at Aquastone.
So while I received my $50 refund for the failed full set, as of now I've hit $92 OVER that for tipping 4 techs in both places and repair/color change service at my other salon.
A complimentary full set is laughable when I've had to spend so much extra to fix what never should have been allowed to happen to begin with.
Saturday update - 8th nail came off
Sunday update - 9th nail came off. The tech at my other place doesn't charge me for the fixes at this point, refuses a tip that I throw down while running away, and she just says "I'll see you tomorrow!"...
Read morePlease note, that I am all for supporting small business. This review is not for Aquastone as a whole. The staff are very friendly, professional, do great nails, and the like. My biggest complaint is about the lash services. I've had lashes on and off for 5 years and it's very hard to find good lash artists. I take care of and baby my lashes with the utmost care. I started with artist Sim, her work was ok. Next time she was booked out so I was with Linda. Linda's work was much better, and I was thrilled. However, after the second and even third time, I keep having lashes fall out. Not the natural ones, but the extensions. I'm scared to brush them as at least 4-5 clusters would come out just from a light brush. (pictures attached) I would have to go in every week n a half at $50 refill, I'm paying way more for refills combined than I am for a full set. The final straw was getting a fill from Sim. I told her I get 13D every time. They seemed way shorter than I usually get with Linda. After leaving I'm able to analyze my lashes closer and notice it's completely uneven! One eye is bigger than the other, and more fuller. Perhaps they were not the same lash length? How does a professional lash artist not notice this while doing the work?? I even paid extra because I had a lot of lashes needing replaced. I'm traveling all the way from north Tampa, paying extra plus too many refills for lashes that should be lasting AT LEAST 2 weeks. (By 2 weeks it looks like I've went a month without a fill) That's unacceptable. I'm really disappointed that this didn't turn out and I have to leave negative feedback. Sim needs further lash training. Please know that it's not the business fault but the folks hired. Better lash...
Read moreOver the last year, this has become my fave nail salon. Chucky & the other girls at the front desk run such a tight ship, you never wait more than 2-3 minutes for your apt, and they're very polite and courteous of your time. The girls all speak English to each other, so there is never a wonder about what they're saying (or if they're talking about you) and are all SO friendly. You quickly find your favorites, but really, if my usual girls are available, I will go with anyone else, they're all good. I love that they will suggest colors, or designs, I sometimes have a hard time deciding on what I want, and having someone to bounce ideas off of instead of them just smiling and nodding is so helpful to me. I love their pedicures, all of them give the best foot/leg massages, and when you get gel on your fingernails or a manicure, you also get a hand massage. It's VERY clean, and there aren't separate stations, there are 2 long counters that you sit at, and they are kept very clean, what's an added bonus is you end up talking to the person next to you because everyone is so happy in there, that it becomes like a girls day at the spa, and you're sharing nail color ideas, and just making new friends. I highly recommend making an apt, you'll find that they're all very good at what they do, and if you have someone in particular you want, book ahead of time, they...
