I stopped by Platoâs Closet recently during my yearly closet purge, hoping to give some of my gently used clothing a second life. The young woman who checked me in was professional, kind, and helpful â sheâs the only reason this review gets any stars at all.
Unfortunately, my experience with the owner left a much different impression. When it came time to review my items, I apparently didnât hear my name called â not surprising, given the noisy fans running throughout the store. When I walked up, the owner greeted me with a dismissive, âOh, there you are, weâve been calling your name,â laced with an unnecessary edge that felt more like scolding than service.
I politely apologized and explained Iâd been in the back of the store, unable to hear. But to be honest, the tone didnât sit right â especially coming from someone who owns the business. I wouldnât speak to a customer like that, and I certainly wouldnât expect it from someone in charge.
You can always tell when a business owner is burned out. It shows in how they speak to people, how they carry themselves, and how they handle situations with basic decency. I left feeling more embarrassed for her than for myself.
As for the store, I learned they focus strictly on junior/trend-based clothing, so my more mature and professional pieces werenât a match â something the associate explained to me clearly and kindly. Oddly enough, they did take some of my husbandâs old workwear, so go figure.
Overall, the store is average at best. Lower-end resale, a very specific demographic, and not worth the trip if you're expecting anything more. My advice? If you're going to run a business, at least pretend...

Read moreI would like to update that the store manager called me this morning and apologized for what happened. For some reason they cannot walk to your car to help you because of insurance reasons? Kind of strange. I did appreciate that she called and apologized. I explained to her that they did not even hold the door for me while I was going in and out. They just kind of watched me struggle. However, I do appreciate that she reached out to me.
I have shopped at Plato's closet and sold things there in the past. I've always enjoyed their selection of clothing. I now have a toddler and a newborn which makes things more difficult. I brought in one box of clothing and shoes to sell to them. I have my newborn in the stroller and my toddler on my hip so I could not get the box inside. And obviously I'm not going to leave my children in the car. I walked in with my kids and asked if anyone would be willing to watch my car with me and help me bring the box in. Everybody declined. I was very shocked and upset. Everyday I'm losing more faith in humanity. Because of this experience I will not be shopping there anymore. I found...
