Taste Buds Kitchen - State College - Penn State — Local services in College Township

My almost six year old and I visited TBK for a cupcake class. While it was a fun class, I was expecting a little bit more for the price. The ingredients were all laid out in different bowls for the kids (with some like the dry ingredients already being combined) and the instructions on what to mix when were very easy to follow for the group. I was a bit disappointed that "our" cupcakes weren't actually baked. The kids are told the "magic oven" bakes and cools their cupcakes while they read a story and then we're given two premade cupcakes by the staff to frost with a bag of premade frosting. We rolled out fondant shapes to put on a decoration after piping the frosting on and were done.

It was a great atmosphere, super cute set up, and friendly staff. But it felt like we didn't really do any baking - maybe it's because my son was in the older range and we're used to baking at home. I also wasn't expecting to only get two cupcakes, six would have been great to decorate.

I do feel like time wise (an hour class) you definitely could have made and baked cupcakes to at least take home with a baggie of frosting to decorate after - we still would have had enough time to decorate the pre-cooled cupcakes instead of a story. More than one sink in the cooking area would be a plus as well. Overall a fun time, but really lacking a bit...

I am very disappointed and no longer recommend this business. At least the State College, Pa local. My daughter really wanted to have her upcoming birthday party at Taste Buds. She has enjoyed their mini classes in the past. Now she is crushed. I was calling in advance to schedule the party, and wanted to get the date before it was gone. I know they offer birthday parties. But for the past week I have been trying to contact them to set it up and nothing. No call back. I have left several messages. I’m done! Poor management! You would think that they would jump at the chance to make money. The only way to book for a party is to call...unfortunately. So very frustrating!! We had such a great experience at Taste Buds Kitchen! We chose the Argentinian Steakhouse class (one of many tasty options to choose from), and it did not disappoint. Jenn, our lead chef, was so informative and made the whole evening feel relaxed, hands-on, and full of laughs. The food we made was absolutely delicious!

This was such a fun night out and a perfect event experience for our little community. Susan, the owner, was incredibly kind and accommodating—she made sure our dietary restrictions were taken care of, which we really appreciated.
