Review for LA fitness in collier township/bridgeville- It’s been a long time since I have been to this LA Fitness. I’ve had great services with them and had no problems when I was coming in and out of the LA fitness. I loved the smoothie bar, customer service, gym equipped maintained & kept equipment clean, loved to relax in the jacuzzi, and swimming at the pool.
I recently learned of a distressing story about a terrible tragedy that occurred at this gym on August 4th, 2009. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families affected by the shooting incident at this gym. This tragedy not only brings pain to the victims' families but also to the family of the shooter(George Sodini). I do not condone the actions of George Sodini; what he did was unequivocally wrong. If society paid more attention to mental-health, showed kindness towards each other, being compassionate, being more caring towards one another, and if the dating-culture, social-culture, and society as a whole were more receptive to giving George Sodini a chance with an open mind and at least suggest an alternative for him to go to a different country to pursue romance & friendships that are true and people were caring, treating others the way they’d want to be treated themselves, such tragic events could potentially be prevented. Once again, my deepest condolences and sympathies go out to all the families impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy.
If you notice that someone is alone and displaying signs of loneliness or forced isolation, trust your intuition and take the time to accompany them, befriend them, and brighten their day. Listen to them with an open-mind and offer a supportive ear. Regardless if your a man or woman, make an effort to engage with them and make their experience meaningful. Your actions can have a positive impact on that person's life. Social-isolation can push individuals to a breaking point, and forced loneliness is a significant concern. By providing support and friendship to those in need, you have the potential to save a life and prevent tragic outcomes such as suicide or harm to innocent individuals and bystanders.
If someone shows signs of suicidal ideation or expresses a desire to take their own life, when all other methods have been exhausted, do not ignore it. Call 911 immediately and seek help. Allow the police and paramedics to manage the situation. Taking mental health seriously is crucial in such situations.
LA Fitness and the gym are places where individuals come to achieve their best physical shape and maintain their health. I recognize that some people prioritize personal space and may not be inclined to engage in conversation at all times, and that is perfectly understandable. The objective is not to create a perfect world, but rather to establish an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to all, regardless of their background.
Let this tragic event at this LA Fitness serve as a learning opportunity and a lesson for all. Let it remind us to give people a chance and to embrace them for who they are, rather than superficial or...
Read moreThis location is okay, but it could use some improvements. For one, the free weight area is overcrowded with equipment crammed a little too close together. This area is also usually overcrowded with too many people, making it harder to be able to access the equipment you want. I was also disappointed to find there aren't any olympic platforms and weights available. The cardio and machine areas are a bit better in terms of space and crowds. There's plenty of treadmills, elliptical, and bikes upstairs. Overall, this gym is always kinda dirty, and a lot of equipment is pretty old and worn out. It definitely could use some equipment updates and more frequent and thorough cleaning.
I'm particularly disappointed by the state of the equipment in the mats area. The foam rollers, medballs, and light weight dumbbells are super old, worn out, and dirty; there are no elastic bands; mats are small and dirty, and the balance disks, bosu balls, and physioballs are often under inflated and kinda dirty. I would like to see this equipment replaced and bands available.
The pool here is okay, reasonable temps, usually not crowded, but the hot tub looks kinda dirty. The jets broke once for 2 weeks, and it was just hot water, and it looked like it was rarely ever cleaned with mildew in it. Also, pool closes way too early, probably due to having life guards, but their lifeguards don't even do their job. They literally all sit there reading their phones and not even watching the pool...would be better without them so as not to give false sense of safety when they don't even watch the pool.
Hours here also are way too limited. I'm okay with 11 pm close time on week nights, but 6 pm close on weekends is way too early, and th3 pool closes 2 hours before the building most days. I rarely come here due to limited hours. One good thing here is ample parking available for free. Gym also has a smoothie bar and racquetball courts, but I've never used either.
Locker rooms are decently nice, but are often a little dirty and lack basic amenities like hair dryers and those swim suit dryer machines. Usually not crowded, though.
I've taken the yoga and aqua aerobics classes at this location, and both classes were pretty good. I did the 11 am yoga one day, and the class was a nice, gentle, vinyassa flow. The yoga classes vary a lot by the instructor, so each class is gonna be different. The aqua class was extremely popular with a full pool, so come early if you're doing that one!
Overall, this gym gets the job done, but it lacks space and common equipment for Olympic lifts, band exercises, and body weight exercises in the stretching area. Too crowded in free weight area and too full of arrogant meat heads. Probably would be intimidating and unwelcoming to new lifters. Could use better cleaning and equipment updates. I like that it offers a pool, racquetball, most basic equipment, and classes. I probably wouldn't join here if it wasn't part of my insurance based health program since the hours and equipment are too limited and no classes are...
Read moreI used to love this gym --- it was clean enough and there were a lot of great class options. I was a member from 2008 through 2019, and I haven't returned since because the pandemic had me looking for other options -- plus, I moved a little farther away. I recently decided it would be nice to go back, so I purchased a membership again online. -- I wasn't able to make it there until this past Saturday for a Pilates class. First of all --- there was nobody at the front desk to help me get checked in (I had no key tag and needed someone to help me activate my app.) Ok, fine...just went right to class. (This was a bit concerning to me having been through a shooting there in 2009.)
The only good thing about my visit was that the instructor, Leslie, was still there --- she is amazing, kind, very knowledgeable and effective. However, the Pilates/group fitness room needs some serious help. It was filthy --- the equipment is run down. The lighting is terrible. Can we please help a girl out and get some new Pilates rings and fitness balls? Some new paint and lighting in that room? She could teach anywhere and it would be great, but it just made me feel depressed that LA Fitness can't do better here.
Additionally, it was humid and clammy the moment I walked in (AC problem?) and the bathrooms were gross. I walked out of there knowing I had made a mistake. I called both the Bridgeville line (was put on hold twice, btw, because he was the only one working the desk....) and the corporate office. Both places said that I could not receive a refund of either of the fees I paid two weeks prior. It would have had to be within three days of signing up. Ok, how am I supposed to know that this would have been such a disaster within three days? Even if I could have received SOMETHING back? Part of the $138 that I gave them? Instead, the customer service rep told me, "Well, you can still use the gym until the 11th." Great. No thanks.
As someone who works in the customer service industry myself, this makes me feel sad for those who are working for this company....
