I am a little sad writing this review. I use to frequent this shop in my youth in the early 2000's for tournaments and the community and staff were great back then. Now... it feels more get in and get out.
I recently decided to get back into the hobby after 10+years and came back to them immediately. Yes the selection is top in town, as it was back then. However, the pricing is way over the top and will not deal, plus the sale rate is way to low for what you have. They did not use to be this way. TCG is better to deal with in that you can sale your extra stuff and bank the profit towards TCG credit. AND yes you do have to factor shipping costs/material, tax, and overhead but in terms of being able to move product much better deals for you in the end over selling to this shop. (I hate saying that cause id rather support a local shop)
The staff does have a habit of cultivating an unfriendly atmosphere, which was never the case back in the day, I have specific memories of staff helping and making suggestions for cards based on what I was running and interested in. While I do not expect them to have encyclopedic knowledge of all the cards between all the hobbies, I do think having some knowledge on the "Meta's" for each hobby would go a long way. Hell just asking what your plan is for that card or how you plan to use/collect it. If they showed interest and can have a conversation, especially when the store isn't packed, it would go pretty far at feeling valued as a customer and likely result in: A me not caring that the price of X is more than other places, and B likely result in me making a bigger purchase. That happened a fair amount back in my youth. Not feeling welcome makes me not want to go in and brows and with the large selection yeah its gonna take me a bit to look though and make some decisions. But you feel watched and rushed the whole time so they can get the store empty and go back to... well I assume watching the small tube tv. (which was a new thing, part of me was like nice they have something to do while they sit during the day and no ones in, but it feels the focus now...
Read moreAbsolutely huge selection of Yugioh, Pokemon, Magic, and sports cards. Tens of huge binders full of cards, all organized by set, card name, or player name. If you're looking for something and know where it might be, they likely have at the very least where to start. Definitely the most comprehensive card store I've ever gone to. The prices I found seemed reasonable, nothing egregious at least in the singles sections. Commons may have been somewhat overpriced, but they're not worth organizing and selling at the penny prices, so you're definitely paying for that.
The place appears to be in disarray, but everything seems to have a place. Cards on the outer walls/cases, accessories on the inside. Sports to the right, TCG to the left. Dragonball Super, then Yugioh, then Pokemon, then Magic. A bunch of sealed product that goes back a decent amount of time, such as older (~2009) Yugioh and sealed Pokemon. Very cool rotating glass cases to view the latest cards for sale.
The staff there were knowledgeable and knew where to find things or how to find them. They were very professional and while not outwardly friendly like most smaller card shops (except for that one older guy with the beard), they were always aware when you were ready to move on to the next binder or needed help. There are times where they'll be busy and not get to you immediately, but I definitely saw that they weren't ignoring so much as working to you when they can. The workers were very quick and knew how to spend their time as efficiently as possible.
Overall, a pleasant store experience where if you have the time and money, you will likely be parted. If I'm ever in the area and somehow in need of more cards for my collections, I'll definitely come back again with card name, set name, and numbers...
Read moreWe were in the store for 5 minutes and my 8 year old lost his most valuable card in his Pokemon collection. One of Dale's tournament attendees conned my son into trading his most valuable card ($35) in his collection for another card worth only 2 dollars. My son knew something terrible had happened when the kid rushed out of the store immediately. I have 2 kids so I was supervising my youngest around the store, while my 8 year old was mingling in the back room when the incident occurred. I talked to one of the managers and he told me it is a "free for all" for trading in the store and that it is the parents responsibility to oversee such activities. I accept this policy or lack there of, however, I am rewarding 1 star because they did not ask 1 question about who the perpetrator was, which means they welcome him back. My son was robbed and because the store didn't lose any products of value, they cared very little about who is stealing from kids in their store and justify the activity by blaming the parents, who know nothing about card games, for not overseeing all trades. Other card houses care much about the community and would at least ask who is robbing kids in the store. Not at Dale's, I would not recommend going into the wild west of card trading, without a body guard for your children. Don't learn the hard way, or your child will be devastated like mine. Join or shop at a different card community like Gamer's Haven, Muse, or Petries...
