The experience at the Harbison Blvd location was incredibly disappointing and frustrating. Despite arriving before closing, we were immediately told that we only had 5 minutes to shop. This was not a warm or welcoming greeting. Then, while in the process of checking out my daughter realized her debit card was in the car and asked to retrieve it, she was denied by the manager on duty. We were told it was store policy that once we step out the door we COULD NOT come back in?? She knew it was only to retrieve a debit card to finish the transaction. We attempted to use apple pay but we're told it wasn't working. This was not only humiliating, but also unprofessional. All we wanted to do was purchase a wallet and leave, but instead we were met with horrible customer service. This experience left us feeling frustrated and disrespected as customers. The lack of flexibility and understanding from the apparent manager on duty as she's running around saying no one else can come in and the poor young girl trying to ring us up looking terrified to say anything to her was unacceptable. We hope that this issue is addressed and that NO ONE has to endure a similar experience. Based on customer reviews I believe management should be re-evaluated. Date of occurrence 5/11/24
Update: This behavior from the staff is unacceptable and shows a lack of commitment to providing quality service. The owner's justification for their actions does not excuse the poor service provided. I failed to mention the manager did allow someone in AFTER the doors were locked to pick up their bags. That's considered a safety hazard, correct? As I stated, WE were in the process of checking out. Apple pay was not working. We needed to grab our debit card, the other lady wanted to pick up her bags of clothes. We were denied! Allowing someone to enter the store after closing while customers are still being served is not a valid safety concern, but rather a sign of prioritizing personal convenience over customer satisfaction. It is important for the owner to address and rectify these issues in order to improve the overall customer experience. Reviews...
Read moreIghe been shopping and selling at Clothes Mentor since they opened. I absolutely love the reasonable prices, the selection is great, and the young ladies employed there provide the most professional and friendly service. They recently added a "personal shopper" experience which is amazing. It allows people to purchase and flaunt in-style, name brand fashions without having to pay department store prices. I can easily flaunt my Liz claiborne, coach and Lily Pulitzer without breaking the bank. I love their video updates, and this one employee, Raven, is an absolute doll!
To the lady who was upset about being offered the $4 Danskos: Clothes mentor is one of the most top notch consignment stores in Columbia. I understand that the shoes may have originally cost you a small fortune, but you are selling them used. If the shoes had actual extensive wear and tear, the store would not have offered to purchase them from you. "Lightly worn" inside only still makes them worn. They were on your feet. Now they are used. As for the pricing, its a very simple consignment model, and I might suggest you take a class in business. For easy math lets say an item new costs $100. A consignment store will sell the item for (again, easy math) 70-80% off of the original price. Lets average it to 75% off. So at the consignment store, the now used item that was sold to the store costs $25. When the store buys from a seller, they buy for roughly 33% of what they would sell it for, so we'll round the offer to the seller to $8. The store has to make money too, so they can pay things like... Their employees would be a fantastic example...and payroll taxes and rent on the space in which they occupy. Then there are those awesome other expenses like power, bonuses, etc. So naturally, with this very simple consignment model, no consignment store will buy from you for the same price for which they would sell it. They wouldnt make any money. If you done want to sell to them, you can just give your things to goodwill and take a tax writeoff, but they want give you new...
Read moreI read the reviews but I wanted to experience it myself. Now I wish I would have listen to the reviews. The workers were fine I didn't have a problem with that but I was given wrong information but it was ok. When I was dropping my things off I expected to get my quote that day but I was told I would have to come back the next day. I'm thinking I came all the way across town and now I got to make a double trip. But I was like ok. They asked if I had high fashion like Gucci etc...if I had that I would not consign that because I wouldn't get no money while they would turn around and sell it for a lot. I saw coach bags selling for $95, $100,$85 etc I know good and well they gave little for those bags and those bags new are close to that price now. But anyways so I went back there the next day and they only bought back 2 items a pair of pants and flip flops for $5 and some change really? They passed on a basket full of things and some were brand new. It was a waste of time and gas to make two trips and pass on a lot of things. They should kept their promise on doing the quote the same day or setting up consignment scheduler where you have to schedule a time to consign and only a certain amount of items like Roundabout does. Some of the things I saw they were selling weren't the latest things and I am shocked they even bought back. IM TELLING YOU IF YOU LIVE A DISTANCE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME..IF YOU DON'T HAVE GUCCI, LOUIS VUITTON DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. They will pay you little for it but then sell it for higher price you will do better selling it on FB...
