McCaulou's Department Store — Local services in Concord

Ok, so I am a black man (Ghanaian for those who must know) and upon walking into the store I immediately felt a disturbing atmosphere; as if I wasn’t welcome. I browsed around the store silently, minding my own business, and one of the staff members angrily walked up to me and asked if I needed anything. I simply told her no, and she left me alone. About a minute later, I notice another lady beginning to follow me. As I was browsing for clothes they kept harassing me and asking if I was going to buy anything. The lady asked if I had anything better to do than look around. They also kept pressuring me to leave with strange non-verbal communication.. Out of nervousness, I laughed and they began berating me with insults, with one woman standing behind me with a clipboard and the other screaming at me from across the store. I left the establishment with an immense feeling of invisible guilt and my disappointment was immeasurable. Day ruined....

If I could give this store a zero I would do that now!! This is the 3rd time I am going first time I bought the overpriced pants which is similar to what Shien and Temu offers ( No difference in quality) the last two times I left the store before liking/ choosing something because of the very irritating behavior of the old lady black hair working here she is too much to tolerate!!! She stares at you and even follows you and comes back to back to ask if you are done you need help with a bad look you can easily tell she is not there to help but insult with that ugly look!! It’s very obvious that she doubts everyone coming to store is coming to rob the store ( particularly robbing her 🙄🙄🙄) maybe she is new and really doesn’t know how to behave humanely and how to treat other people!!!!

This store always has fabulous ideas, when I need to go gift shopping, or I need an outfit for a special event. They have beautiful clothes, purses, jewelery and boutique items that you can't find anywhere else. I love that they carry, "Life is Good" shirts. They also carry the Tommy Bahama brand that makes perfect gifts for the men in my life. The sales assistants are really helpful and always help me find the "hard to find" sizes. Parking and checkout is quick and easy. I can get help finding a gift, pay for it and they do the most beautiful, (free) gift wrapping, and be done with my shopping task...
