Staff is always friendly and personable. Salon is clean and the atmosphere is relaxing. My experiences during my most recent and previous visits were very different, but the time period was about a year apart. The difference I think was communication. My issue is with the detangling process after the hair wash and the blow dry before flat ironing. The common practice seems to be to wash all of your hair in the bowl at once, then to use a wide tooth brush to detangle, but with natural hair, I find that this method only tangles the hair further, making the detangling process painful, causing lots of breakage. I left once with lots of broken hair toward the front of my head and a small bald spot because of the rough detangling. I could feel and hear them tear hair out of my head. Depending on who is doing your service, the blow drying was also too rough. The end process is always nice, but you see the damage soon after. I still think they should rethink the way they approach the washing and detangling of natural hair over all. No one should have to ask to not have their hair torn to pieces. Per other reviews, I’m not the only one who has had this experience. If you’ve been natural long enough, you know our hair needs patience and a gentle touch.
During my most recent visit, I spoke with my stylist ahead of time and explained that I am prone to hair loss due to a medical condition. She took her time carefully washing and detangling my hair. I could feel her come to a knot, stop, and carefully work the hair free. I was so impressed with her patience because I have A LOT of hair. My other stylist Tracey was very careful and thorough with the blow drying and flat ironing process. When I tell you she made sure EVERY hair was straight. She also communicated very well to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. The only other thing that irked me was that I wasn’t allowed to enter the salon until 9:30 and my appointment was at 9:30. They could open at least 5-10 minutes prior to the first appointment instead of having us standing outside sweating, especially when there are people inside that see their clients waiting. Just a courtesy for clients that show up a little early to respect a...
Read moreI want to preface this review by stating that I think SilkpressExpress has an excellent staff of professionals who were very kind and quite funny. I was very excited to come here after seeing both my mom and sister getting silk presses here, and they looked amazing! Sadly, that was not my experience.
Firstly, the detangling process was extremely painful for me, and although I'm aware I'm tender-headed, I have never been in that much pain while getting my hair detangled. I usually don't even feel it when my hair is being detangled by a hair stylist, but I felt like my hair was being ripped from my scalp. It felt the same when my hair was getting blown out as well. My edges are very sensitive and fragile, and after my trip there, it looked a lot worse than it did before, after I had been taking extraneous measures to grow them back. Now it's starting to look more like a bald spot after my visit which is VERY disheartening and frustrating for me to see. I am PRAYING it is not damaged beyond repair.
Secondly, it did not look like a typical silk press. The ones I have gotten in the past looked a lot straighter and had more luster, shine, and bounce to it. It looked like a Dominican blowout at most, which is not what I paid for $105 for. After a few hours it poofed up, and I hardly went anywhere.
Although I do not think I will be returning in the near future, I hope they train their staff to be gentler towards their client's hair, and make sure they prioritize giving them what...
Read moreI love the work and results but they could work on their CUSTOMER SERVICE the shop does not give a welcoming vibe, stylist are never smiling or seemingly pleasant overall. I had my daughter serviced here twice but won’t be returning due to customer service the last visit. I ended up paying additional tip because the receptionist/cashier person wouldn’t explain to me what the $10 service fee was. She told me it wasn’t a tip so the bill was $115($10 service fee) so I added another $10 so the stylist could have a tip because I was under the impression the $10 service fee wasn’t a tip! So the total for that child was $125. When I pid for the next child, I asked her again, she had bad attitude/snarky remarks under her breath she then advised “ all service fees go to the stylist” ! Like lady you could have just advised this initially so the totally for the second child was $115. Also the appointment start time was delayed which caused an additional hour of time added to the 3 hours. When I returned to pick up my children I had to wait another hour(4 hours). I did mention that I thought they would be ready as I had another engagement to attend. Not one person apologized for the inconvenience or offered a cup of water (nothing) just mumbling under her breath and sighing hard~ Because of that experience, I will be taking my business else where. If you treat me like you don’t want my business, I’ll gladly go else where with my hard...
