A local gem that somehow continues to fly under many peoples radars. Without a doubt my favorite all-time music store. The staff has forgotten more than most people will ever know. As friendly a bunch as you'll ever encounter, and I can't think of a single question I've asked or heard anyone else ask that went unanswered. They carry all the big name equipment and I have heard people more than once have their minds blown that this unassuming storefront has such high quality equipment hidden within. All the equipment in the world doesn't mean a thing if overpriced but here's the kicker - the prices are not only competitive but are usually equal to or lower than online retailers including the beast who's name begins with "A" that is devouring independent retailers worldwide. Seriously, they are at or below online pricing across the board. Plus they can answer any questions and in all likelihood that can play whatever it is you're buying better than you can - but they won't tell that, or rub it in your face no matter how much you deserve it. The Academy is the gem within the gem. Having a music store that can go toe-to-toe with any competition is only part of the experience here. Beginner to advanced music lessons are also available at Western Md Music Center. There are several outstanding instructors teaching a multitude of instruments. My daughter took guitar lessons with Rob and we were both impressed by his knowledge and his style which made shy 13 year old feel at ease and gain the confidence needed to play on stage in front of a crowded room at the recital. We could not have hoped for a better instructor, and from my understanding all the other instructors are equally wonderful. Please do yourself a favor and stop in and see Brian and Larry and when you're done I'm sure you'll have a new favorite...
Read moreI would personally not recommend this shop to anyone. I bought a very expensive guitar over the summer from the shop because I wanted a personal feel and the customer service a small shop provides, and I was willing to pay the marked up prices for good service.
I stopped in / called the shop multiple times and left messages with employees who were supposed to call me back and after a month of running around / and even stopping into the store, I just decided to go to another store.
Guitar center gave me better customer service for free. I spent lots of money and this shop and got terrible service and “it is what it is” attitude. Please don’t spend a lot of money here or buy a guitar it’s not worth it, but if you need accessories or anything else you’re probably fine.
I’ve traveled all around the US and Small businesses can’t compete price wise, and the service here was very bad, I gave them so many chances to just be decent but yeah it was bad....
Read moreHaving run a big music shop myself, I'm always on the hunt for a great store. Western Maryland Music Center filled that need!
The girlfriend and I made a day trip over to Cumberland while staying at Rocky Gap Casino, and found ourselves on Baltimore St. I am so glad we found these guys!
This shop had everything you could need (I'm a drummer myself, and they had all of the odds and ends drum hardware pieces you have a hard time finding at the bigger shops) and the guy working behind the counter was super friendly!
I can't say enough great things about this shop and definitely plan on stopping by next time...
