Ok...that is true the best as I can describe it. Food - I got the habanero sliders and there is so much they could have done to make them go the extra distance to get a higher rating. Toast the bun for starters would be nice touch. It had good spice but it was no hotter than Tabasco sauce....you want to say habanero, kick it up another notch or 2. You could add dill or another herb just to bring a little more flavor to the palette without taking away from the Angus patty (which was cooked and tasted to perfection). The atmosphere is once again, ok. They were playing the music a little loud, and with no noise dampening devices, this place is not good for carrying conversation well. The bar is great craftsmanship. You can tell it is a well crafted bar based on the dove tailed drawers it has and nice aesthetics. Nice wood floors and such. The furniture looks a little out of place/dice bar like. Drinks- if you are a craft beer drinker, this place offers some but nothing that will blow your socks off. They offer some good drink specials and Lagunitas IPA at only $3 was really good. I wish I could of seen something more local beer here. The bartender was really good though and clearly is loved by regular locals. If you are looking for a fun place to hang out with a large group of friends in Cumberland Maryland, this is an excellent place. They have TVs, music's, cheap drinks,... but if you want anything other than that, you are looking at just an OK experience (I don't want to be mean but that is the truth, please ok not hate me). Mezzos, I think you have the capability to be a 5 star place. Bring in some more local craft beer on draft, change up you menu so it isn't just fast paced bar food (you are totally on the right path with tapas... just bring the culinary art to the next level), change your light fixtures to something from the 21st century (I think my grandma had the same one from back in the 60s), and either turn down the music or add in noise dampening solutions (like foam panels or different texture walls). There are plenty of dive bars in Cumberland, if that is what you are going for, add more Miller light or bud light poster to your walls...but I don't think a dive bar sells tapas style meals. Once again - please don't hate me, I just think you guys could be so much more. In short, Mezzos is just ok and you will just get an ok experience here. Mezzo, I think you have the capability to be so much better. It's time to bring it to the next level and I think you can bring it to the next level with some few menu upgrades, cosmetic improvements, and what you want to be identified as in Cumberland (dive bar or a community tapas bar and grill worth going to in...
Read moreI love pizza and post about it. This isn't an official review here, that will come later. Initial thoughts two slices in and...
wait I got the 16 pepperoni and boneless combo because I really wanted to try the chicken.
The pictures everyone takes look amazing. It looks like real chopped chicken chunks, not processed minced chicken.
So that's what brought me here, but then I saw the pizza special and said well I love pizza so got it.
Let me say the chicken is everything people say. They could and should rival Wild Wings, but this isn't about the chicken.
This is about the 16 inch New York style Pepperoni pizza. Mezzo's New York "inspired" pizza is different. It's just so different from New York, but you can tell it wants to be. The crust. Let's start there. The crust is thin yes, even the edges are on the thin side compared to NY, but boy is it dense. It's weird because it's stiff and crispy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. Great qualities, but tastes like a thicker version of Ledo's. The sauce taste like ravioli tomato sauce. Not pizza sauce. The Pepperoni is amazing and it makes me worry what would've happened had it been just cheese. The cheese was thick no stringy, but I won't fault them as I didn't eat it straight from the oven. I honestly don't want to finish this pizza, but I don't waste food.
The chicken is their main attraction. I'll try the artisan pizzas, but I'm good...
Read moreWe liked the decor and vintage vibe. However we were the only customers for Friday lunch which was a good indication of the service. Most of the menu is sliders. If you want to focus a menu on sliders consider the bun. They were white, dry, and tasteless which i saw in other reviews but i thought surely, you see people don't like them, you would have changed them but that wasn't the case. We ordered loaded potato chips, but received loaded fries covered in nacho cheese and chili. Not even close to what we ordered and no apology whatsoever for the mix up actually asking us if we were sure if that isn't what we ordered from the bartender who took our order. We were sure. Being the only 2 customers in the place, it took over 40 minutes to get our 1 order of 5 very dry sliders. We were completely done eating by the time our loaded chips came. The keg kicked on my second beer which was 3/4 filled in the glass but I was charged full price. We wanted to like it. But our experience was not great. Go to Wendy's instead. Lack of training for bar staff is something that can ruin an experience and our experience...
