Loved this place until today. Went in and waited 15 minutes to order. No problem. Very busy , no problem. The person behind the counter asked if dining in or take out. Told them dining in, was given a number for the table. People that were right before us served. Don’t mind the wait. 3 more tables served that were seated after us. I understand busy. The waitress walked by the table and said they had our food to go. They thought we were take out. I have a number, not take out. Said she would bring it. This was 1 hour after we entered the place. We did get our drinks within 10 minutes. The food was brought. My plate felt slightly warm. Everything we ordered was room temperature- cold . My son goes to counter and said our food is cold. Sent the manager . My son said we either want new food within 15-20 minutes or a refund. This employee came to our table. He said , We are busy. I can’t get food to you that soon. My son explained , we understand your busy, the wait initially was not the problem, it was that we received cold food from an error from your establishment. He wasn’t believing it had been made for take out. Said the waitress told us that. He said he could see how it happened , that we paid with a card. Not buying that, many patrons pay with a card and we have a number. We said we will pay for the drink and no food. The table felt he was hostile. Like this was somehow our fault. He left and must have went back to the kitchen. He had a different tune when he returned. He apologized and said he refunded the money. Not in my bank as of yet but will check. The dilemma is I didn’t look at the receipt till later. He didn’t return my tip. Since we felt his hostility, didn’t feel tip was warranted. The food looked delicious but none of us could eat cold waffles. Cold sausage , cold potatoes . And cold eggs. This experience put a damper on the rest of the day for all of us. We specifically came to Cumberland for breakfast at this place coming from Hagerstown and Morgantown. I am so disappointed in the manager skills and how we were treated. This restaurant had a great reputation in my book. This ruined it. We just wanted hot food in a timely Manner since we had already Bren there over 1 hour. Like I said The initial wait wasn’t a problem. Cold food was. How hard would it have been to serve us again within 15-20 minutes to keep a...
Read moreAfter camping weekend, decided to find a diner in Cumberland and found this place highly rated. I don't know if it was the busy holiday weekend or low expectations of the locals, but i could not rate this cafe above a 3. Orders are taken at the counter and though the counter seemed well staffed, the line moved very slowly. Menus were not placed at the end of the counter where folks could look while waiting for the single POS open. People had to decide what they wanted when they were standing in front of the girl taking orders. The 2nd POS was not being used even though the line was consistent. After ordering, at the self serve station there were no coffee stirs so i had to ask for a spoon. Food arrived with tableware. We ordered pancakes and eggs (cafe delux). No butter or syrup was on the plate. I asked counter staff if that is normally brought out. Yes, they said. A few minutes later i found the server and asked her. She said Yes as well but never brought anything. Eventually i went to the kitchen where half a dozen syrup containers were sitting on the counter and got one. Gave up on the butter, by then pancakes are cold anyway. The food was acceptable, one of the 2 eggs ordered over hard was not. Coffee taste okay. Seems their smoothies are popular and they were wiped out of pantries by the time i placed my order, so they must be good also. Maybe thats why this place is so popular! I would not discourage you from coming here, on a less busy day you may have a better experience. Overall however, i sense a serious lack of management or one of those "absent owner" restaurants where the idea is good but nobody is managing the...
Read moreDuring our first-time visit and breakfast today at Cafe Mark, there was a consistent line of at least ten people, it never stopped. That was very telling and this restaurant's vibe and food quality absolutely deserve the attention. It's nice to see an establishment doing so much steady business.
For $50, we had two make-your-own omelets with toast (one cheese only and one with bacon, ham, feta, green peppers, onions and mushrooms), one side of potatoes, one hot coffee, one iced Chai of Sauron (amazing name AND taste!), blueberry muffin, and to go we grabbed a blueberry lemon pastry, and one massive cinnamon roll and another equally massive peanut butter cinnamon roll. A ton of food for a reasonable price.
The omelets were not huge and only came with one slice of bread cut in half, which should really be two slices of bread. The eggs were great though. Potatoes were cooked well and paired nicely with the eggs. The nice young lady who brought the breakfast thought to bring ketchup with the potatoes, which was a good idea.
The coffee drinks were very good and the pastries were out of this world. The restaurant itself has a very comfortable old world vibe, with tall ceilings and a second floor to dine in. It's fairly low fuss and simple, but the menu has a lot to offer for many diets. I can't really comment on the staff since interactions were limited.
Thank you Cafe Mark for a...
