Nasty parking lot, anti-2a signage, and bully security guards.
Y'all remember when H-E-B was the place the affluent families went to buy their groceries? I didn't step foot in my first H-E-B until I was in my teens because my family just couldn't afford it.
Fast forward a good 15 years and this place is more ghetto and dirty than the local Wal-Mart stores. Some of the stuff here is cheaper, but you pay for it by shopping with people half naked, in pajamas, drunk, or smelly.
That wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the anti-2nd amendment signage on the store. No carry of firearms permitted. Licensed or unlicensed, concealed or unconcealed. So the store must have great security, right? Absolutely not.
One of the last times I visited this store, the security guard, for no reason, walked to the center of the cross walk and pulled out his phone and just stood there. He was making a flexing posture, probably trying to look intimidating. Cars started to just go around him because he was blocking everyone. Eventually, he slow-walked to the store like he was in a movie, learned back against a brick wall, spread his shoulders to look cool again, and started playing on his phone.
I've seen security at other H-E-B locations walk around the lot and ask people what they were doing there, but this was probably the most obvious power trip I've seen so far.
I do not trust H-E-B because of their incompetent budget friendly security company and their anti-2a stance. I do not feel like my family can safely shop here because of this, but I don't see it changing. This place has gone down hill in a bad way. Maybe it's the area, maybe it's just a...
Read moreThis really should have been 2 reviews because I had a very unique experience. For starters, this isn’t my normal H‑E‑B. However, on my first visit, I came to the store looking for a very particular item. That’s when I first met Omar (and another woman, who I forget the name of; maybe Omar can pass her info on, because she was also part of the team who went above and beyond.)They checked isles. The checked seasonal displays, they checked the back, they looked everywhere. It’s rare to leave a store empty handed and yet feel like you had an exceptional experience. Omar took my information and said they’d follow up. I’m not going to lie, I was skeptical. Until I got a phone call today. I feel like it was 2 weeks since the first visit, and they had followed up. They held the item! Do you know how uncommon it is in the service industry for something like this?! When I mention this item, I’m talking about a very difficult, very popular kids toy that is almost impossible to find anywhere. They could have easily handed it over to anyone, but they said they’d hold it and they did!! Are you kidding me?! I’m still blown away by this. I love the H‑E‑B by my house but this store, these employees are special. They came through with a Christmas miracle and were content with knowing they had simply done their job. I cannot say thank you enough. This store, these employees and Omar deserve recognition. In a day where people are quick to put up something negative, I wanted to make it a point to show my appreciation. This level of excellence needs to...
Read moreI'm reducing my original rating. See below for original opinion.
It has been several years since I've been shopping here and the disappointment continues to build. The place is always jam packed. I know this is no fault of the store, but it is rediculous that you can't find a parking spot even at some times when I've tried to go at off peak hours... First issue that I've had repeatedly is the shoppers for the online order people and I have complained about this in my HEB reviews directly, but these giant carts clogging up isles during peak shopping times is absurd! Three giant carts blocking up whole isles. SHOP DURING LESS BUSY TIMES.
Second, I have put up with many frustrations and disappointments at this store, but after accusing my daughter of shoplifting sending a creeper to follow her all over the store(including the restroom) and initiating a multi-hour ordeal that was completely unnecessary and completely mis-handled by Harris country pct 5(again) only to find out that THERE WAS NO SHOPLIFTING!!! I don't think I have any more patients for this store.
Sorry HEB.
original review Best grocery in the area. The store is clean, spacious, well lit, well laid out. Selection of locally sourced items is solid. The manager(s) always seem to keep the right number or registers open so that the lines move at a reasonable pace. They carry a wide variety of items from home and patio to pharmacy, health food and supplements, baby items etc. Great prices and cool...
