Aveda has messed up my red hair coloring before, but this was by far the worst of the 3 instances. For the first two, they immediately offered to book a comp correction service, but this time, no one mentioned it, but this being a third reoccurrence, I did not leave until they booked a comp correction service because of my awareness of the option. All other colors I've done at Aveda have been fine, but red has never been done correctly, which I realized after this terrible service. Once they fix this red, I will never get red done at Aveda again. After each red correction, I've been told they'll add my formula and notes to the system. I've been going to Aveda for 6 years since moving to Dallas and at this most recent appointment, they said there were zero notes in the system. Where are these formulas and notes from 6 years of coloring and service??! The first red error wasn't the color I requested; disappointing but livable. The second red error, the student missed a patch in the front; unfortunate but manageable because I could part my hair a certain way and hide the patch until the correction service. This time, my roots are a blatantly brighter and distinct red, while the bottom is a darker violet, with zero opportunity to hide the botch; I was mortified. The absolute worst and most expensive service I paid for at Aveda in 6 years and it took 9 hours to leave with a hideous coloring. Edit: Emailed Aveda as they requested below and no response. My review completely holds. It's not really a student issue, they're obviously learning. The guidance the students receive is inconsistent. I've been in chair and had two instructors give differing opinions on how to execute a red coloring on each visit. One instructor was so aggressive and I'm glad the student listened to the other instructor because she clearly was FAR more knowledgeable. It was quite stressful because I was already there for a color correction to the FIRST attempt they messed up, but it finally ended up being just what I wanted because the student had guidance. I'm sure it was equally confusing for the student, but that's my typical experience at Aveda when going red.

Honestly I had a pretty trying experience at Aveda yesterday. And it isn't the first time my hair has not met expectations there. I asked for a shadow root, the color didn't match my picture AT ALL, and the haircut I recieved was too short. While I appreciate these are students learning, I felt I was not listened to at all and the instructors were not great about making sure to check in and direct. My student was much more concerned about her instagram photos and video than my hair. It took four hours for the whole treatment. And even as a very unhappy customer I was still charged full price and was not offered a voucher or coupon to return and get it fixed. I won't be going back, and I think AVEDA needs to address how they train these young people to interact with their customers and make sure they are listening to directions and, even if they want to leave early for the day and post to their instagram feed, they are being professional in front of their customers. When I woke up this morning the first thing on my mind was how sad I am about my hair. I rolled the dice one too many times. I'm adding pictures so everyone can see I did not receive what was asked for. To their credit, I do think the hair color looks okay even though it was not what I wanted. But cutting my hair so short, with blunt ends, then blow drying it to flip the ends out, then acting like I'm the crazy one because I didn't like it - I just wanted OUT of there. The whole experience was deeply disappointing. And that was all the money I had budgeted for the month for this hair cut, so I'm stuck sinking more money into another cut at a more expensive place (which I should have just done in the first place). So if you're doing something simple, maybe this is the way to go, but don't go expecting any major results (and maybe that was my poor judgement - lesson learned.) I hope in the future they improve on their teaching practices because unfortunately these students will eventually be out in the real world and won't be able to use the excuse "I'm a student" anymore.

I went in to get gray or ash blonde highlights, and left with warm blonde. BUT that was explained to me, and not as big of an issue. I put to say don’t expect to leave with what you go in wanting. The real complaint is the instructor explained (a lot) why they couldn’t do the color I wanted during the consultation; however, she never said I’d need a second service to cover my roots. When the service was complete (6 hours later, which I had expected), my roots were still super visible. It looked like I never went to the salon. Their response was, “Our students can’t get that close to the root.” It wasn’t until after multiple contacts that someone actually explained it takes another process. If it had been explained to me at the consultation, I would’ve gladly added it on and paid for it. I filed a complaint, and they did NOTHING to resolve it. I didn’t even ask for the service for free, but did ask for a discount, as I would need to rearrange my schedule to go back in and this is something they should’ve discussed with me during the consultation. They are not prompt in responding to customer complaints, nor are they willing to meet you halfway to resolve them. It’s so disappointing. Side note: I paid for a hair cut, and the girl doing my hair almost forgot. She was really sweet, but stressed out by the instructor and tired because of personal reasons. So do pay attention to what you request & be kind. These are students. To be clear, my issue is with the instructor who should’ve explained what was needed and the staff for not handling the complaint well. Pic is a few hours after leaving the salon. The new growth is very visible.

I do not typically write reviews, but I had to write this one. I had heard good things about Aveda Institute at Park Lane in Dallas for years. So I decided to give them a try. I am SO glad I did! I called around Noon on a Thursday and got an appointment the same day! I explained the service I was looking for (full foil highlight) and the receptionist paired me with a master stylist, Bayleigh Darrough. When I arrived at the salon, the ambiance felt calm and peaceful. Not frantic and chaotic like other salons. I waited in the lobby while I sipped their delicious, stress-free tea. Promptly at my appointment time, Bayleigh came out to get me and was very friendly and welcoming. I explained I had never been to the Aveda Institute before and she immediately put me at ease with her knowledge and skill level expertise. The instructor working with Bayleigh was Todd Faulk; he too is extremely knowledgeable, as well as a working, professional hair stylist in addition to being an Aveda instructor. Bayleigh and Todd both listened patiently to what I was looking for in my hair treatment and reviewed my Pinterest inspiration images. I instantly felt I had connected with them, they heard what I was looking for and they came up with a game plan. My previous colorist had applied several different chemicals to my hair leaving it several different shades as well as extremely damaged. Bayleigh and Todd consulted together and came up with a complex highlighting plan to achieve my desired goal. Todd and Bayleigh presented the plan with the overall cost of $77 and I signed approving them to start the services. Wow! I was so impressed! Talk about no hidden costs with add ins. Several times throughout the treatment, Todd came by to check how things were progressing and reviewed Bayleigh’s work. I felt like I was getting two expert stylists for the price of one! The end result was even more stunning than I could have imagined. I came in with several shades of damaged blonde hair, and left with a gorgeous blonde that looks natural and healthy. I was also introduced to an Aveda product that Todd called “Neosporin for hair” which made my damaged hair silky soft and shiny again. My husband and friends have already given me so many compliments on my new hair. I am so happy I tried the Aveda Institute! The level of professionalism, cleanliness and excellence in service blew me away! As I was leaving, I thanked Bayleigh and Todd for making me feel beautiful and they responded by saying "thank you" for providing them with the practice opportunity. I will happily oblige any day! These stylists more than earned my trust! I am now a huge fan of the Aveda Institute at Park Lane! And have already booked my next appointment to see Bayleigh, again! Thank you...

I was a cosmetology student at Aveda Institute Dallas, I must say that my experience was wonderful. I was taught by truly passionate instructors who helped me through every step of the way. There is only one instructor that is unprofessional, unruly, and just mean. However, I will not rate my whole experience poorly because of one instructor. The management at Aveda Institute truly cares for the students and that they are successful upon leaving the institute. Jenn, the director of the institute has just been a blessing in my life. She has such a big heart and is perfect for her job (dealing with hundreds of girls)! Joe (the education director) is very passionate about what he does and is constantly looking for ways to better our education. Jamaica (the retail manager) is wonderful as well as passionate about our products, and teaches us everything we need to know to be able to educate our guests on the products, and make honest recommendations. They could not have chosen anyone better for the management. The year that I was a student there I learned more than expected, and was able to exercise what I learned on clients that came in. I rarely had any issues with any clients. The main complaint that I heard about the students is our time management, which is not going to be on par with regular salons. We are LEARNING new techniques for each client because no one's hair is the same. Towards the middle of our year, we go on salon tours, which was great because I am now employed at one of the most successful, as well as the trusted Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader's Aveda salon with help of Jenn, our director who wrote me a wonderful recommendation letter. I would say that your experience is what you make it, if you work hard, and stay passionate about the beauty industry you will be successful at the institute. Some days are harder than others, but keep your eyes on the prize. If I could go back, I would not choose any other school. I met wonderful people, and was able get a solid educational foundation which will never stop growing as this industry is always changing. I am so truly grateful to Aveda Institute. Thank you so very much to everyone who was apart of...

I had family in town so my mother graciously scheduled facials and a shampoo blow dry for all 4 of us. I went with the Dual Exfoliation Peel and my mother did the 30 min Tulasara™ Facial Treatment. I CALLED Saturday the morning of to confirm all of our appointments. I was told yes everything is good for all four. An hour or so before we get to the school for our 3pm appointments they call my mom trying to cancel my appointment because my girl didn't show up so they asked to cancel and reschedule. My mother was disappointed because 1. I had called to confirm that morning, and 2. this was something special to her. They moved things around and changed my moms 60 min facial to a 30 min, gave me her lady, and gave her someone else. When we get to the school we check in, have some tea everything was back on track. After all of our services (my mom paid for) My mom came to me disappointed that her facial was HORRIBLE AND LESS THAN THE 30 MINS (time wise) THAT SHE PAID FOR. I asked her if she told the instructor when she signed her off and asked for feedback for the student. She said she was never greeted, received a skin analysis, or got signed on/off by an instructor. I'm in cosmetology school (not aveda) and we HAVE to have an instructor speak to our guest, check in to make sure they are ok, sign off and insure they are satisfied with their service.

In this case the student got away without doing any of the above. My mom is a very sweet woman and this was her first facial. She paid for all of our services, graciously gave up her lady and an extra 30 mins so that I could get my facial done that day. My lady Melanie was fabulous and I want the same for my mom. I would appreciate if someone would contact me to work something out for her. This is a school and this could be a great learning opportunity for the student and upcoming professional. I called the number listed online and I was told someone would contact my mother however, no one from Aveda has reached out.

If you are going for a facial Melanie is on point! I rebooked for April. She followed all the steps, filled out the chart of products used, and did great work. Shes 5 stars...
