Visited 7/24/21 with my best friend and her husband. I visited the Kona Grill in Kansas City, KS in 2010 and have been begging to return for 11 years! I had trouble with my reservation which was required to eat at this location. Scheduled it for noon, but called the previous evening to confirm the times and the woman I spoke to (Abigail,I believe) kept insisting that it was 1pm and I had my friends vouch that this was what we all heard so we agreed for 1pm. We arrived about 15-20 minutes late because of traffic and unfamiliarity with the Dallas-Fort Worth region (we were in town for the Hella Mega concert 😀),but we couldn't be seated because we had somehow missed our reservation that WAS scheduled at noon. I was very frustrated because we all heard the woman last night reassuring me that we had nothing to worry about as long as we made it before 24-30 minutes passed after our scheduled time. We sat there for a good 15 minutes before I left my friends for the restroom because noone was speaking to us and I was gone for less than 5 minutes but they were seated when I returned. I was not happy about this, but I brushed it off because we started joking around and heard music from the bands we were going to see that night. There were two things that really kept me from giving this review 3 stars: how gorgeous and perfect our food was and our super cool waitress. Everything was super clean and classy and the macadamia nut chicken was wonderful just like I remembered 🤌🏾👌🏾😩 I do highly recommend bringing back the cheddar mashed potatoes and the green beans for this dish, though. Our waitress' name was Crystal and she was really calm and patient with us. I am bad at deciding on what to eat with big menus and she had to come back 3 times just to get our drinks and appetizer selections because none of us knew what to pick. She was super attentive and I still don't know how she didn't drop anything with the nails and people crowding the walkways, but she got it. I remember her recommending something called dubbin ( I kept calling it dove-in )for my Doc Martens and I am so glad she told me about this because these boots give me blisters. Thank you! Takeaways from my review 1. Call the night before and the day of your visit .Get that spot saved . 2. Be there at least 2-3 hours beforehand so you can go see the neat Italy food store upstairs 😀 We didn't get to do anything before/after we ate and we honestly had no excuse not to that morning.🙃🥺 3. Please take pictures and thank your waiter/waitresses. Be kind and tip them, too! I apologize to Crystal. I meant to post this weeks ago but I kept putting it off. It's been on my mind at least once a day since then and I wanted to keep my word.

I visited this establishment to experience their happy hour on 5/16/2025. I was greeted by my server, Kirk, who was extremely professional, sweet, and attentive. He consistently checked on me, especially when I got stuck out on the patio in the rain. At one point, he noticed I wasn’t eating my sushi roll and asked if everything was okay. I informed him that I wasn’t satisfied with the roll. I had ordered a spicy tuna roll with added avocado. However, the roll was very bland and lacked flavor, the tuna had no seasoning, and overall, it wasn’t enjoyable. I requested to speak with a manager, as the roll was $9, and I had only eaten one piece. The manager, Edwin, came out. I explained the situation to him, but he gave me an awkward look and questioned the order, saying, “This can’t be the spicy tuna roll we don’t add avocado to this roll.” I reiterated that I had added avocado and that the spicy tuna roll was not satisfactory. I also mentioned that Kona Grill used to serve much better sushi, especially the spicy tuna. Edwin said he would go to the kitchen to taste the tuna himself and see if there was an issue with the seasoning. However, he never came back to my table. He didn’t acknowledge me, provide an update, or offer any kind of resolution. Eventually, my server informed me that they would not be removing the $9 charge for the roll I couldn’t eat. I’m disappointed that the manager failed to handle the situation professionally or even follow up. I was left sitting on the patio in the rain with no resolution. Edwin showed no initiative to make things right and clearly lacks customer service and de-escalation skills. On the other hand, my server Kirk was excellent attentive, kind, and very professional. It’s unfortunate that he has to report to a manager who doesn’t demonstrate the same level of care leadership, customer services and soft skills. Edwin could certainly learn a lot from Kirk when it comes to professionalism and customer satisfaction.End result I was stuck paying for food I was not satisfied with and did not eat. I left behind a whole sushi roll. See pictures below, beware of the management at this location as you will be stuck with unresolved issues and wasted money as they do not accommodate 🥴. I’m extremely disappointed as I could’ve went anywhere for happy hour.

Thanks for making Mother’s Day terrible! There is no excuse for how bad this non-meal went. At 1 1/2 hours and still no food we finally left. It was one thing when we first got seated that they were busy and the waiter seemed either new or just overwhelmed so the drinks took a long time. Ok no worries. But we ordered the food at the same time we ordered drinks. At about 45 minutes the place emptied out to only being half full and our section was nearly empty (see pic). So I am thinking ok it will speed up now, nope. The manager came by a couple times to see how the meal was, well first time we don’t have our drinks after 20+ minutes ( then we got 3 coffees with out cream or any type sweetener, by the time we got cream and sugar the coffee was cold, no exaggeration) the second time it had been an hour with out the food. He did t come back after that. We found out from another waitress that he comp’ed another table who had waited their whole meal for $150, her words. Now we know why he didn’t come back. The problem was obviously in the kitchen so at an hour and a half we no longer felt good about what ever was going to come out and told them we were leaving. Three different people were very concerned about us paying for our drinks. A hostess, I think, said she was sorry and just let her get the check for us... ah ok. I wait she comes back and says we comp’ed all the food (that we never saw) so the bill was just for the drinks, $3.25! Seriously? After such a bad experience you still need to get your $3.25? I paid and we will not be back. I don’t know what the real problem was but I know the manager didn’t handle the day well. So much for spoiling the 3 Moms at our table. On the bright side the BBQ we pick up on the way home was great.

Shane the bartender:

Joshua Manager been there for 8 months

Title: Exceptional Service at Kona Grill - A Five-Star ExperienceReviewer: Onesimus MooreDate of Visit: Thanksgiving DayReview:I recently visited Kona Grill, and it turned out to be a delightful surprise. This visit wasn't planned; it happened spontaneously as I was heading to watch a movie at Cinemark and noticed this inviting little bar.My interaction began with Shane, the bartender. I only needed one drink, a Long Island, and Shane crafted it perfectly. Along with the drink, I enjoyed some delicious calamari. What made the experience special was the conversation with Shane - he's genuinely hospitable and a pleasure to talk to.Additionally, I had the opportunity to speak with Joshua, one of the managers. We discussed professional aspirations and personal goals. Joshua is not only a good listener but also someone who can hold a meaningful conversation. It was refreshing to meet someone in a managerial position who shows genuine interest and engagement. As a result of these interactions, I am compelled to leave a five-star review. Both Shane and Joshua are outstanding representatives of Kona Grill, deserving of all the accolades and financial merits that come their way. In a world where it's easy to lose sight of what's important, experiences like this are cherished. Their professionalism and warmth are commendable.Thank you, Shane and Joshua, for making my day at Kona Grill memorable. Your dedication and exceptional service are highly appreciated, and I wholeheartedly recommend promotions for these individuals. This review comes from a place of genuine gratitude.Final Note:"Everything about my experience at Kona Grill was top-notch. These individuals made my day and deserve all the praise. Thank you for an unforgettable experience."

My name is Onesimus Moore and I approve...
