I did the mind body package with a 90min massage and 30 min reiki session with Lauren. As soon as I walked in the door Lauren was really welcoming, we got started right away. She took the time to get to know me and gave me time for me to relax before the massage. The massage and reiki was relaxing and I felt great afterward. I enjoyed the burning of the sage. I didn't have any issues during the session. However, at the end when Lauren was providing the details of my reiki session, I felt Lauren became unprofessional. She used micro aggressions and derogatory - insulting - terms to describe the people in my life - it kind of ruined the whole experience for me. I didn't get that sense before our session. I'm not sure what gave her the ok to go from what felt like being in the presence of a professional to repeating the insulting phrases and terms several times in her feedback of my reiki session. It wasn't until I got home and reflected on my session that I realized why I felt good physically because the reiki worked wonders but I felt kind of off put over descriptors.

I had hoped to make this my home for massages and reiki but after what I was told and after some reflection on my experience I decided it didn't sit right with me which is really unfortunate. I'm not sure if I will be back. If I do return I will schedule an appointment with someone else. I hope Lauren can realize through self awareness what terms can be offensive to others and how it can come across as unprofessional. Just because we talked for a bit doesn't mean its ok to describe the people in my life in the way they were described. There's always way more to someone's story than what was told. I hope this is a learning experience. Otherwise, the space was inviting and Lauren did her best to drown out the construction outside and leaf blowers with the relaxing music which was out of her control. Today I had a 30 minute massage with Lauren and I left feeling so amazing! Her energy was so kind, warm, and welcoming! I explained to her that I have a condition that causes injuries with my joints and she immediately knew I was referring to hyper mobility. It is a rare condition so it is even more rare for people who don’t have it to know what it is. Her already having this knowledge made me feel so safe and comfortable. I told her that my hips have been my problem areas recently and so she focused there which left me walking like new (this is not an exaggeration!). She catered to all of my needs and put genuine care into my massage! She truly is so kind. Sage Roots is welcoming to ALL women of color, age, weight, the list goes on! I absolutely love Ashley and Lauren!! I have been coming to the spa now for 2 going on 3 years and I probably will never leave lol. I love the sacredness and how private and secluded I feel when I come for my massage and reiki session. I always leave feeling refreshed, revived, renewed and just a sense of rejuvenation.
