We visited Danville to explore the art exhibits at the Glass Museum. The weather was cold and rainy, we couldn't find a parking place closer so we parked a few blocks away and walked to the restaurant. This was our first time visiting. There was no hostess, so we found our own table, which wasn’t a big deal. When the waiter came over, we asked about the food. I inquired about the caldo de res, and the waiter confidently assured me it was good, so I ordered it. My daughter had the pozole, and my son had the torta birria. The torta was decent, but not exceptional.
Unfortunately, the queso fundido didn’t meet expectations—the chorizo seemed undercooked, and the cheese wasn’t fully melted, lacking the creamy texture we were hoping for. The caldo de res was very disappointing; it lacked flavor and variety—just corn, meat, and what seemed like frozen vegetables that had been stored too long. It wasn’t seasoned properly and didn’t include the usual ingredients we expected, like squash, potatoes, cilantro, or bone marrow. The tortillas were cold and stale, which didn’t help. My daughter’s pozole was also lacking flavor and came without the traditional fixings like radishes, onions, lemon, or oregano.
The spicy salsa we ordered was more of a watery, brownish-yellowish substance than an actual salsa, and it was also flavorless. When I asked the waiter about the missing vegetables for my caldo, he explained they had run out of potatoes and vegetables. This was both surprising and disappointing. If a dish isn’t available in its full form, it should be communicated upfront—especially when it’s advertised as such. I requested the caldo be removed from the check, but that didn’t happen. Instead, I decided to take the meat and corn home, thinking I could salvage it, but it was so bland that I couldn’t even eat it and I left it on the plate. I also ordered mole enchiladas, hoping they’d be better, but they were another letdown. The tortillas were cold, the chicken was poorly shredded, and the mole was overly sweet. The rice and beans also seemed off.
At one point, another staff member came over when my son asked for a cold glass for his beer. The waiter seemed frustrated and mentioned there was a “problem,” even though it was simply a request for a glass. The communication between the waitstaff wasn’t smooth, which made us feel uncomfortable. By the time we left, we hadn’t finished our meal because it just wasn’t enjoyable. The waiter didn’t offer an apology or attempt to adjust the bill, which was very disappointing. My daughter left a small tip out of obligation, not because she wanted to.
I had hoped to enjoy this place based on other reviews, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t meet those expectations. I hope they improve the quality of both the food and the service. Most importantly, they should be careful about serving what they advertise. As people familiar with authentic Mexican food, we felt that the dishes we received were far from acceptable. We spent over $80 for a meal that left us dissatisfied. Based on this experience, we can’t recommend this place or...
Read moreI had previously left a 3 star review because the first ti.e I came here my food was not great however I came back after a few months just for margs and have come back several times sense then and I have to say it has been great since, maybe the first time I came was an off night but since then my experience has been enough to take my 3 stars to 5. Things I've had from the menu: Vegitarian tacos: this is what I originally gave 3 stars, it was just okay Street corn (in a cup not on the cob): it was okay, too much mayo compared to other ingredients Street corn (on the cob): SOOO much better way better ratio of toppings to corn Chips and salsa: it's okay, it isnt my favorite but is alright, biggest issue is that it's super watery and a hit and miss flavor wise, I wish there was more onion, Cilantro, etc Water: tap SUCKS, they need a water filter or something Strawberry Margarita: LOVE, these are great, I've had them frozen and on the rocks and prefer the frozen but they're both great, I would not get the tower, it's wayyyy watered down, not worth it, there is not nearly as much alcohol Vegetarian fajitas: WAYYY better than the tacos, will be ordering this from now on
