1st ever review posted of any kind. This is a must read if considering a round here. Got invited to play this course with a friend and I said sure. Prior to heading over I pulled up some reviews. I sent to him and asked if he had played here recently. He said we are good, so we arrived for our 7:48 tee time. Checked in and grabbed some range balls. This is not a 70 dollar course. Driving range had the same grass that I have in my yard, st augustine I think, kinda odd. Before heading to magnolia 1st tee we decided to grab a cooler and some drinks, grill CLOSED. September 23rd, 1st day of fall and gorgeous weather. You would think the crew would be ready for a busy day, not. Head to the 1st tee, no starter and people just teeing off as they please. Btw, the reviews about cart paths, rough, bridges, all spot on, but I can live with that. Big sign on number 1, no private coolers allowed, even though they have no open grill to get drinks, hmmm. We get to number 5, oh good there is a water cooler. Shake the cooler and it is empty. Open cooler and there is thrash mixed with the couple ounces of water left in it. We were 7:48, so there were only 6 groups ahead of us. Obviously someone missed there job assignment this morning. But, they have a drink machine that is out of just about everything, selected a powerade and got a different flavor than what I requested. We were a twosome and had a twosome in front of us, so play was moving along well. Also, never once saw a drink cart to get any adult beverages. Got to the turn and realized that they put a foursome in front of us instead of the previous 2. We decided that at that point we had enough. Went into the proshop to express my concerns and was just told sorry you did not enjoy yourself. Let him know that I was new to the area and was not impressed at all with the service, I said not one word about the course. These are things that people can control and are easy customer service issues that can be fixed. Kitchen should be open before 1st tee tme. water should be in water coolers. Drink carts should be on the course. Starter should be on 1 tee. Pro shop guy offered nothing in an attempt to get me to try them again. All around bad customer service experience. Usually the owner that responds to reviews only responds to the 5 star reviews. He or she might want to reconsider what...
Read moreI played 18 holes today. I last played the course a few years ago. I was shocked at how bad the conditions were, particularly given the relatively good weather we’ve had this year. The only conclusion I can draw is that the course owners are broke and can’t afford to put any funds into the basic maintenance of the grounds. Every green has dead spots or the surface had been scalped by the mowers. The issue wasn’t in the fact this happened, it’s that there was no attempt to fix any of these problems - especially given how obvious it was that they had been there all year.
Tee boxes were in poor shape as well. They hadn’t been mowed in quite a while given the amount of dead, decaying leaves sitting on top most of the surface. The traps all seemed to have different types of sand - colors, grains, etc.
Here’s the kicker. The course website shows a beautiful lush course from several years ago, giving the impression of a championship caliber layout. With that, they charge you $65 for 18 holes with a cart. The course plays like a bad municipal course, not a country club-style set of links that they portray. Rock Creek green fees at $70, but when I putt on their greens, my ball doesn’t hit weeds the size of a quarter that are infesting the putting service to the point where it’s worthless even trying to read the break.
I’ve played golf for 30 years, in high school and college. I’ve never once written a review for others to see. Being a greens keeper is a hard job. But, it’s impossible when management gives them a budget only big enough for a few bags of Scott’s weed and feed. Trust me - take a pass on this one. It’s practically false advertising to claim this course is anything close to what they...
Read moreAbsolutely abysmal! This course is worse than most people’s front yard. Whoever does the greens should do the fairways because that’s how thick the greens are. No sense in reading a putt because you have to launch it to get to the hole. The fairways look like they just let cows mow. I’m pretty sure whoever actually mows just bought a John Deere from Home Depot and just sets it to the highest setting. There’s drainage that is clogged crating swamps in the middle of the fairway. Cart path is optional apparently but I can understand that because it’s cracked and falling apart if you stay on it. And just when you get past all the trash of the course you realize “haven’t seen a beverage cart all day”… no sand to fill divots, no cooler for drinks literally nothing about this place was pleasant. Range was trash, course trash, service trash, just all trash. Finally when we got to the turn we were able to get some drinks and the “cooler” was a large ziplock bag.. I’m not making this up. If this place charged $30 it may be acceptable, but $70 is insane. There’s money being skimmed off the top I guarantee it. Charging this much for what I could cut out of a cow pasture is just ridiculous. I pray everyone reads this review and just stops going to this place, it’s the ONLY way...
