I was a long time patron of de Luna Jewelers. Over the years, I have had many items repaired and several commissioned pieces at their former store. It was my go to local jewelry store. Recently, I needed my engagement ring resized and decided to try Bella Luna Jewelers. The bench person (male) filled out the order and even suggested that I have a new appraisal done for this ring, because it had been a few decades since I upgraded the insurance value. I told him that I had the original GIA Certificate and receipt if he would like to use it.He declined my offer. I received a phone message about a week later telling me that my ring was ready. When I tried it on, it was resized too big. As there was no sizing information on the original intake envelope, the clerk just shrugged. The sizing information merely stated, "make 1/2 size bigger". I wore the resized ring for a few hours, but returned to the store to request that it be properly sized. It was too loose and I was concerned that it might slip off and become lost. Kyoko deLuna was working that day, and to make a long story short, begrudgingly agreed to resize my ring to the size I had originally requested. I was told that the ring appraisal would be ready in a few days. When I went in to pick it up, I was totally shocked at the appraisal. The new appraisal from Bella Luna was less than the original GIA Certification value. This was due to my stone being appraised as smaller, poorer color and of lesser clarity . I returned to the store with my original 30 year old appraisal and receipt. This time Dick deLuna talked with me and made some weak excuses about the huge discrepancy and then stated that he had personally trained the person who made the new appraisal. Several days later, I was summoned again to pick up my ring appraisal. It had been adjusted accordingly. I checked with another jeweler and he confirmed that the new appraisal was definitely closer to how much he would have valued this ring. I am not even mentioning the time and money as issues, though both were a waste. My biggest issue is with the lack of professionalism, knowledge and courtesy. I would not recommend this jeweler for appraisals...
Read more[skip to the end if you want the TL;DR] While on a long recovery from an injury (read: VERY bored), I began thinking about a custom piece I wanted to design. I came up with a concept, researched materials, and eventually sourced and imported some jade and silver to become a bracelet. Once all of it arrived, I took it into Bella Luna, because based on (many, many) repairs I’ve had done there over the years (because I constantly forget to take my jewelry off before going to the barn to ride my horse), I know they do great quality work and that they are very friendly.
I walked in, and literally said, “ok, I have about 75% of a bracelet. Let’s see what we can do!” and OMG, the team at Bella Luna absolutely blew me away. From sizing the bracelet appropriately, to finalizing the design, to considering things I had never even thought of (like weight distribution! And what material to string the jade beads on!) the Bella Luna team were incredibly professional.
The final product took my breath away when I picked it up, and I think the price for the work done was very very fair. I’m a craft fanatic, whether it’s jewelry for me, or saddles and equipment for my horse, and I can confidently say that the work done on my bracelet is clean, neat, and well-done. The eventual end design is actually a pair of bracelets, so once the materials for the second bracelet arrive, I’ll be bringing them to Bella Luna to complete the pair. 2 tips if you decide to go the route I did: ask questions so you know what’s going on, especially if you’re a jewelry design newbie like me! Communication with your jeweler is very important. And, also, be prepared for a little wait time. Good quality jewelry design and construction isn’t going to get done in 24 hours, so factor that in if you want the piece for an event. This isn’t Amazon, this is a bespoke jeweler.
Ok, so, the TL;DR: I came into Bella Luna with a design concept and materials, and the team at the shop finalized the design and built an absolutely gorgeous piece for me. I’m incredibly happy with it and will continue doing...
Read moreBella Luna is an absolute joy of a store. Dee and the staff’s jewelry expertise and patience led to us finding the perfect engagement ring for me to propose to my then-girlfriend, now fiancée, with. I was dead set on having alexandrite be the stone for the ring and while every other jewelry store that we went to had flatly stated that they didn’t have any, Bella Luna was enthusiastic about bringing some stones in for us to see. Within the week after the request, we were able to see alexandrite in person to confirm that this was the stone of choice. Dee was so patient with us as we described a vague idea of the type of ring we were looking for and tried on ring after ring. I ultimately purchased a custom hand engraved 14k rose gold ring with alexandrite from them, which not only turned out better looking than what we expected but was remarkably cheaper than what I had anticipated. To top it off, all of the stones at Bella Luna are ethically sourced so that my fiancée and I can sleep well knowing that no humans rights were violated during the creation of the ring. Even after purchasing the ring, Dee and the staff were so kind to us and polished the ring for free when we went to tell them about the successful proposal. Finally, and most importantly, my fiancée LOVES the ring and cannot stop looking at it. She is adorable and I love her.
TL;DR: the staff are kind, patient, quick, and create amazing products using ethically sourced gems. Also, my fiancée...
