It offers a lot of Japanese goods that I don’t see often, conveniently in one place. The store itself is fine for its inventory. However, one cashier on the stationery level was incredibly unwelcoming, that I felt the need to mention it in a review. I understand that there might be a lot of shoplifters or maybe the return of the students was overwhelming, but I felt that I was treated like a potential thief who wanted to steal a roll of post-it notes that cost less than $10. (I’m dressed nicely too…and I’m 34, totally not a student.) I just wanted to get nice post-it notes for my cocktail books while my niece-in-law got erasers. All the post-it notes were—to my surprised confusion— locked, so the cashier had to unlock them for me to even get a closer look. Were they paper, or plastic—could I write on them or not? The ones I was interested in were above eye level, so I couldn’t tell. It was a unique ā€œcompact rollā€ type. The cashier unlocked it, took the items, and just said, the items will be ready for you at the front. I asked if I could look at them to see the design and such. I was at the front, and I felt like she was watching me, as if I would, at any moment, shove these under-$10 post-it’s into my bag and book it. Other customers needed to check out. She asked if she could help them, and I naturally agreed. However, she was pulling the post-it roll out of my hands (as if I’d steal it while she was tending to the other customers?!), and I asked if I could continue reading how it worked😭?!?! I felt so uncomfortable, that I just gave up on trying to figure it out, and settled for getting a back up set of standard post-its along with the roll-type. A weird experience. I’m so sorry if you had a bad experience with shoplifters, or I dunno—if you judged me for being annoyed that my spouse didn’t want to help me by asking you to unlock them for me while I studied the post-its (so I waited for him, staring at them forever)… but. That was so uncomfortable for me. I’m sorry if I did something wrong, but that felt really undeserved. I’ve never experienced this in my life. :(

Kobe Mini Mart in downtown Davis is a Japanese Store that has a little of everything Japan. There are 3 floors of Japanese offerings: - 1st floor carries snacks, candy, food, art supplies, Anime items, keychains, convenience items and kitchen items. - 2nd floor are the gatcha toys, blind boxes, collectibles as well as the learning center where you can take Japanese lessons. - Basement is the Kobe Underground where you can find cosmetics, skin care products, Manga, books, stuffed animals, scale model kits, t-shirts and tote bags. If you are looking for something Japanese, check out Kobe Mini Mart where you can find a little Japan in Davis, CA.

Lots of interesting Japanese merchandise jam packed into this two level store that comes complete with a reading lounge in the basement. It goes to show how much effort the owners have put into sourcing and stocking the various Japanese goods, large and small, into this store - something this is not easy during these tough times. I really enjoyed visiting this store, kudos!

I hate to give this shop a low star but if I could give them a 0 star i would. We like this shop but were not allowed to stay and shop due to the service dog we had with us. There is a sign on their door that said Service Animals are welcome but in reality they asked us to remove the service animal. We tried to explain that this request was against ADA rules, but the individual insisted that we take the dog outside because pets are not allowed. We even pointed it out that according to their own sign that service dogs are welcome however the individual still asked us to leave. We left the items we had in our hands and left. We even tried asking to speak with the manager but the individual there said the manager would ask us to leave too. This was reported to the ADA and until they comply with what their own signage states we can no longer shop here. I hope others that support the ADA and other service animals no longer shop here. I will have to use amazon for my Japanese items from now on.

Update: In response to your reply, the only thing I can suggest is that you train your employees to recognize the difference between a service dog that is wearing a "service dog" vest and an emotional support dog. Your employees should also be trained on the questions that they are allowed to ask to determine...

I really hate to do this and leave a bad review, but here is my experience with this shop, ordering through the "Shop" app. I ordered two packs of a frozen Yamachan ramen that I really like and it says on the package that it's a perishable frozen item, and when I received both packages, they had been warm for a couple of days and had nothing to keep them cold. I reached out to the manufacturer to see if they would still be safe to eat, but after talking with them, it sounded like it'd be best if I threw them away, which I did. I reported the issue to this shop through the Shop app and through email separately, and my emails have been ignored and I have not received any replies whatsoever and at this point, it's 10 days after delivery. I'm pretty disappointed, and I dislike having to leave bad reviews, but this is my honest experience with ordering from this shop. I am hoping that I get a refund for my order, and I hope they take this as constructive criticism on how to improve going forward. Edit I was ultimately unable to work with the store to get a refund, so I had to do a charge back on my card since the store was of no help with a...
