Love love love Newsbeat. I've been coming in and out of here occasionally for a few years now on visits to Davis and more since I recently moved here.
You'll find a little bit of everything here, I love it for the range of speciality cookbooks and the occasional appearance of irish Cadbury's chocolate.
The only downsides ( and reason I've dropped a star) is I find it a little expensive, I found a wonderful french cooking book here but it was 20$ cheaper on amazon. As much as I love to support local businesses, as a young couple trying to support ourselves in Davis we have to be practical with significant price differences!! The other thing is I feel like sometimes the worker is staring at every little move you make, and it kinda makes for an awkward experience? Again I understand the need for security especially in a small local business but I think there’s better ways to watch customers than to stare them down
Again it's a wonderful little shop I love browsing it for its variety of quirky items - some of the best calendars I've ever had were purchased here! It has a huge variety of magazines to cover every topic you...

I tried to walk past, and instead of moving it, he let it hit the back of my knee. Rather than apologizing, he immediately blamed me for being in the way and even had the audacity to complain that I didn’t help him pick up his items—as if I was obligated to do his job!
When I confronted him about it, both he and the woman at the register (who I assume is an owner) doubled down, continuously blaming me instead of taking responsibility. Their attitude was shockingly rude, entitled, and completely unprofessional. No apology, just arrogance.
Avoid this place if you expect basic courtesy and decent customer service. Plenty of other stores in Davis where you won’t get treated like an inconvenience for simply walking...
Read moreThey have a great selection of goodies like vintage/artsy postcards, magazines, newspapers, toys, candles, keychains, tarot cards, games, and various items with funny prints... This place would be so great to go to if you want to get a gift for someone! They match so many aesthetics as well! My only criticism is that the items may be priced a bit too high... but they are an independent shop, functioning in this economy.. so it's understandable. The staff seem a little shy, but they are helpful and kind if you have a question.. just don’t ask the cashier guy because he’s kinda creepy tbh- he kept staring at me from...
