Nice seating on deck, my coffee was awful on this visit (4/5 green stars) Note to owners: you have to start being nicer to customers. I asked what kind of milk they have and where their beans come from. These two questions were dealt with in a belligerent manner. I understand that some places are not yet used to being asked questions along these lines – it might seem like an intrusion. But a lot of people want to know what they are eating and drinking these days – either for health or ethical reasons. I like the space – especially their outdoor deck. But my Americano ($3.25) was not good at all – it was about the same level as Folgers instant. Overall, I enjoyed sitting on their deck (the third star was for that) and might give them another try for tea and food. I’m giving the Cloud Forest Cafe 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • In the end I didn’t find out where their beans came from – they are roasted somewhere in Davis. There’s no info on trade practices or sustainability. Overall, I think they deserve 3.5 green stars but would give 4 stars if I knew their beans had a positive social or environmental impact. I’m rounding up for now. • They stock almond (not organic), rice and soy milk. • Their teas are amongst the best that you can find, in terms of impact: Equal Exchange and Choice Organic. • Their cup lids and cold cups are standard plastic. They do have ceramic cups and plates for in-house. • I think their pastries come from the Village Bakery, which I reviewed separately (4 green stars). • Decent selection of vegetarian and vegan food options. Refusing to remake a ruined poached egg. Cloud Forest Cafe charged me $12.50 plus tax for avocado toast with a poached egg. I should have known the amount of food would not be enough for the price, but I was fine with it. Then I cut into the egg to find it nearly hard boiled, with only a little bit of it soft like a poached egg is supposed to be. I considered just leaving it be, but for $12.50 they could at least poach the egg. I went back and they said I would have to pay for a new egg. I was not about to pay for what should have been good in the first place, so I sat back down. Luckily, the cashier who took our order was amazing. She was so nice when she helped my girlfriend and I initially and when she presented my egg to the kitchen. Later, she came out with a fresh poached egg that seemed like she either convinced the kitchen staff at length or paid for it out of her tip. We were honestly moved by how kind she was. If you're reading this, thanks again. You're great, queen.

I think the only downside of this was this place were the prices. I feel like they were a little too ridiculously high for what it was. Nonetheless it was still good. The orange juice is made there and is delicious. It doesn’t taste sour or acidic. It was sweet and fresh. This was my first time trying a panini and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a decently sized portion and also yummy. Not only that but the staff was nice, friendly, and efficient. The environment was also cool.

Just by the coffee, I would give this place 2.5/5, it was very basic and nothing special, not bad though, but the price is totally not worth it. I rated this place lower than 2.5 since I was very poorly treated here, like even at a mere human level putting aside the fact that I'm a customer there. I went to this place this morning and sat accidently on the wrong side of the coffee shop to charge my laptop since i saw an outlet and I wasn't fully sure where to sit since the sign made it seem like the whole coffee shop was no laptops, but I saw people using them. I went up to the register after ordering and finding a spot to sit to ask for the wifi to use my phone and the owner proceeded to yell at me, " No laptops, You cant sit there I thought you already saw the sign. Didn't you order to go?" Which I took as their direct way of asking me to leave. So, i went back to my spot very embarrased since people were looking at me and began to pack up my things during which they yelled at me again from across the shop to sit on the other side if I want to use my laptop and at this point I was very upset and disrespected ( I was soo embarrased I almost teared up lol) . He could've politely said yes, there is wifi, if I could please sit on the other side of the shop. I would've happily obliged I have no intention of ruining the atmosphere that they were trying to create in the shop. I just have never been there and didn't know better they should've been more understanding of that. I was looking forward to it since people said it was good but never expected receive this kind of treatment, I get better treatment at fast food places lol. I definitely speculate after looking at other reviews that the owner has something against students, which isn't smart business considering its walking distance from a large university. I highly don't recommend this as a studying place or a place in general...

My husband found this quaint place in downtown Davis but thus has changed as of yesterday around 2:09 pm. The young lady with glasses was really not atuned to her job this day. Lack of focus, courteous and lackluster service. The medium latte took longer to complete due to her slow movements. I asked if she was ok and has it been slow today? Her reply "yeah for the last two days." So my question is why the slow movements if your not busy? We will not return due to the following: Slow unresponsive service. The medium latte had one inch empty from the top! I paid for a full cup, not to be short changed! It was hotter the heck in here! The door was open with no conditioning just after 2:00 at 98° outside. I was not going to linger just order and endure a slow making latte. Due to her slow movements other young patrons were impatient and filtered in without a mask and this slow young lady didn't ask them to out one on for safety reasons! There are many other choices in the city besides this place. Get it together for your sake. Remember...
