I’ve been going to this salon for over 6 years and have never had a bad experience before yesterday. I was scheduled for a cut and style with Jordyn. She had a client who she was working on when I arrived and I ended up having to wait 20 minutes. When she finally did get to me she had her assistant do my scalp massage, shampoo and condition, and my mini facial. She did cut my hair, but failed to style it due to scheduling clients on top of each other.
She was working on 3 people at the same time. She said she would blow out my hair after she finished up with her first client, but she never came back. She started working on a new client who needed to get highlights done. She told me that she would get to me after she was done with her new clients foils. I then waited another half an hour and she still wasn’t any closer to being done. I decided to leave as I had waited an additional hour past my scheduled time. The entire appointment seemed extremely unprofessional, which you wouldn’t expect from a master stylist.
After everything that happened Jordyn still charged me for the full service and claimed I’m the one that booked the wrong appointment. She said I should have booked an appointment for wavy/textured hair and that’s why she didn’t have time to finish my hair. Never in my 6 years of coming here have I ever booked that service. She is the third stylist I’ve worked with here and no one else has ever needed “extra time”. I truly feel like I looked better going into this appointment than I did when I left. This experience was very disappointing and if it weren’t for the good experiences I’ve had in the past I would not be returning...
Read more3 stars for the decent formal hairstyle I received from Lola. Only 3 because it was styled nicely but the curls fell within an hour. She did not prep my hair in any way with heat protectant or styling spray. She was friendly and communicative though, so I wouldn’t necessarily sway anyone away from booking with her. Just prep your hair before paying for an $90 formal styling. I only washed mine as directed by their website. 1 star for my make up application with Yvonne. It’s one of those “this is what I asked for, and this is what I got” situations. My make up was nothing like I requested. I had no time to wash it off for a redo so I paid and left unsatisfied. At least they gave me $20 off for a first-time service. I think make up artists need to be comfortable telling clients that they do not have the ability to do what’s asked for. I would have just done something more simple if she had been honest up front. I wanted a 60s style with a white lid and a black accent on my crease, I got heavy black eyeliner all around instead. I had her remove some before I left. Up close the liner was sloppy. She also did not have a foundation that matched my skin tone but did not tell me and used a yellow one anyways (I’m pale pink). I would not go back for any kind of make up application at Square One considering my experience and now knowing they have limited products that will not match my skin.
Everyone was very friendly! I often go to another location for hair cuts, but this experience did not meet...
Read moreI've been getting my hair cut here since 2016. I've seen three stylists. One stylist moved on to teach for Aveda. Another one did my hair for my mother's wedding (Emily, excellent stylist) and now I've been with Jordyn for 4 years or so. She's so talented that my husband sees her too. Jordyn is able to translate my hopes and aspirations for my hair color and style and make them into a reality. I've been growing out a bob for four years and my length is toward mid-back. She's magical.
All of Square One salons I'd recommend. My favorite ambiance is the one in the cannery district on 3rd street. High ceilings in an old building with tons of exposed brick and charm on 3rd Street. I've also been to the location downtown Centerville. The Brown Street location is convenient, and only drawback here is the salon is on the second floor, so the majority of the space is not fully accessible but I bet they could service someone on the ground floor by relocating some tools. A ramp enters from the sidewalk on the front entrance to a back patio where someone could conceivably enter via wheelchair for nail/spa services and retail.
I would also recommend Beth at the 3rd street location. I've been there for a blowout before and she gives good attention to detail in styling. This is a brand of salons which maintains their stylists and managers and I can't speak highly enough of them.
