North Village Chinese Restaurant - 1 Stars
After living in Dayton my entire life, I finally decided to give North Village Chinese Restaurant a try, especially after noticing a few customers coming in for takeout. Unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. I had high hopes based on the foot traffic, but the food did not live up to my expectations.
To start with, the hot and sour soup was a letdown. It had a globby texture and lacked any real flavor, which was surprising. I had never tried it before, so maybe this is how it is typically served, but I found it to be unappetizing and not even hot. On a brighter note, the wonton soup was quite good—definitely the highlight of my partners meal.
The crab rangoon was average; it was okay but nothing that stood out. The fried rice was decent, but it really needed more seasoning or flavor to elevate it. I found the noodles to be sticky and bland, which was disappointing. The Mala G. Beans Chicken was particularly unappetizing and lacked any definitive taste, while the Moo Goo Gai Pan also fell flat in terms of flavor.
Overall, I was hoping for a better experience at North Village. While I did enjoy the wonton soup, the rest of the meal simply did not impress. I may return to give it another shot, but my first visit left much...
Read moreUPDATE TO OWNERS COMMENT BELOW: Owner's response was extremely ridiculous and condescending! With inflation increasing their already unjustifiable prices, I am offended that this is their answer for a repeat customer who has continued to give them business to support businesses in my neighborhood. It would've been better to not respond as opposed to this flippant comment, especially since you've disregarded grammar entirely! Ordered 2 DISHES: Sesame Beef and Mala Chicken, one with fried rice one with white rice. It was terrible! The Sesame Beef was gummy, not crispy; sauce was runny. Mala Chicken had NO flavor and not the distinctive Mala seasoning. The ticket was $36! It seems like they are skimping and gouging their customers. We usually frequent Young Chow in Kettering (closed for renovations until the 19th of April) half the price and twice the flavor and quantity. I wish we just waited instead of wasting our money. It's a real sham! They take advantage of being the only Chinese restaurant on the UD/Brown ST and serving residents and students an...
Read moreFirst, I asked if they have MSG in their food, as I have an intolerance that leads to a migraine. I was told that MSG could be "removed" for me. With that in mind, I ordered the large shrimp lo mein; it arrived relatively soon after ordering. The delivery guy couldn't find his change, so there was an awkward moment of me waiting for him to find five dollars. The food was warm but not hot. I was very hungry so I didn't bother microwaving it. Halfway through eating it, I began to taste something bitter and just gross: Something - probably one of the vegetables -- in the shrimp lo mein was spoilt. It's been about 10 minutes since I first started eating. I have a migraine and I feel queasy. I will NOT be...
